 Background:

The Social Worker (SW) works under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Officer. The Social Worker is responsible for supporting SIF’s activities with orphaned children and vulnerable families, including identification, assessment, home visits, case follow-up, referrals, psychosocial support, and coordination with community structures and service providers.
The Social Worker ensures that orphans and their families receive appropriate support, referrals and follow-up, while maintaining confidentiality, safeguarding standards, accountability and respect for humanitarian principles. The role contributes to the wellbeing, dignity and protection of children and caregivers.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Objective 1: Implementation of Project Activities

  • Identify orphaned children from vulnerable families according to programme criteria.
  • Identify guardians/mothers or 18+ orphan youth for livelihood support when relevant.
  • Conduct regular home visits to assess living conditions, family dynamics, child wellbeing, education status, health needs and protection concerns.
  • Develop and follow up individual case plans for orphans and vulnerable households.
  • Provide basic psychosocial support (PSS), guidance and counselling to children and caregivers.
  • Support recreational activities to boost children’s confidence and wellbeing.
  • Supervise OSP children in their schools and monitor their performance.
  • Assist in distribution activities and ensure protection-sensitive delivery.
  • Conduct bi-annual household visits for OSP families.
  • Support awareness-raising and capacity-building activities for families and communities.
  • Ensure informed consent, confidentiality and respect for dignity during all interactions.

Objective 2: Case Management, Record Keeping & Data Protection

  • Maintain accurate and confidential databases for OSP and other child welfare projects.
  • Maintain records of home visits, school visits, cluster visits and services provided.
  • Maintain beneficiary contact details and stakeholder directories.
  • Maintain case files, assessment forms, referral follow-up documents and monitoring tools.
  • Ensure safe storage of personal data (hard and soft copies), including photos and videos.
  • Use digital tools (Kobo/ODKToolbox) when applicable for data collection and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection, safeguarding and Do-No-Harm standards.

Objective 3: Coordination & Community Engagement

  • Maintain close coordination with sponsored families and schools to ensure smooth programme implementation.
  • Identify local partners and organizations working in the same area to avoid duplication.
  • Coordinate with INGO/NGOs, government departments and community structures.
  • Mobilize and empower mothers/guardians to support children’s wellbeing.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, schools, health facilities and service providers to strengthen support for orphans and vulnerable families.
  • Ensure 100% payment confirmations with families.
  • Raise awareness among families and communities on child protection, safeguarding, children’s rights and access to services.

Objective 4: Reporting& Documentation

  • Prepare and submit monthly field activity plans.
  • Support timely submission of Monthly Reports, sponsor reports and group meeting minutes.
  • Submit stakeholders’ meeting minutes and maintain proper documentation.
  • Collect and document impact stories and success stories monthly.
  • Prepare case updates, home visit reports and recommendations for programme management.
  • Ensure confidentiality and ethical standards in all reporting.

Objective 5: Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Assist Programme team during field visits and assessments.


 

  • Conduct monitoring of orphan families through regular domestic visits.
  • Hold monthly/quarterly meetings with clusters/committees to address monitoring findings.
  • Collect school performance forms, enter data and maintain updated databases.
  • Conduct school visits to monitor children’s performance and ensure sponsorship is used appropriately.
  • Report any risks or protection concerns affecting children.
  • Support efficient monitoring and evaluation of orphan projects to achieve desired results.

Objective 6: Child Protection & Safeguarding

  • Ensure secure handling of sponsor child addresses and correspondence.
  • Conduct child protection Quality Checks for all correspondence materials.
  • Sensitize children, parents/guardians and stakeholders on children’s rights and responsibilities.
  • Identify and refer child protection cases to appropriate internal/external services.
  • Sensitize families on complaint response mechanisms and safeguarding policy.
  • Promote Do-No-Harm, confidentiality, non-discrimination and child-friendly approaches.
  • Ensure safe, respectful and culturally sensitive interactions With Children and caregivers.

Objective 7: Other Duties

  • Perform any other project-related tasks assigned by the supervisor/HOM/Field Coordinator.
  • Ensure all interventions align with SIF strategy, child protection standards and humanitarian principles.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education:
• BA in Social Sciences, Social Work, Psychology, Human Rights or related fields.
Experience
• 2–3 years of relevant experience in child-related projects, social mobilization or humanitarian fieldwork.
• Experience in emergency or conflict-affected contexts is an asset.
Technical Skills & Abilities
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in remote environments.
• Good computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience with digital data collection tools (Kobo) is an advantage.
• Strong report writing and documentation skills.
• Basic knowledge of child sponsorship programmes.
• Flexibility, adaptability and cultural sensitivity.
