The Child Protection Officer work under the supervision of the Head of Mission/ Field Coordinator and with technical support from the Child Safeguarding at HQ, the Child Protection Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, supervising and monitoring SIF’s child protection and safeguarding activities in Sudan. This includes case management, protection monitoring, strengthening referral pathways, capacity building of community structures, and ensuring that protection principles, safeguarding standards and Do-No-Harm approaches are integrated across SIF’s humanitarian response.
The Child Protection Officer works closely with communities, children, caregivers, social workers, CSOs, government departments and other humanitarian actors to identify protection risks, support vulnerable children, promote safe access to assistance, and ensure accountability, confidentiality and respect for humanitarian principles.
The role also includes responsibility for the Orphans Sponsorship Programme, ensuring protection-sensitive follow-up, documentation and coordination with social workers.
 

Objective 1: Child Protection Implementation & Case Management
• Support the planning, implementation and monitoring of child protection activities in line with SIF procedures, CSP Minimum Standards and humanitarian principles.
• Identify, assess and monitor protection risks affecting children, including those related to violence, neglect, exploitation, displacement, disability and other vulnerabilities.

• Conduct protection monitoring through household visits, community consultations, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), Key Information interviews (KIIs) and direct observations, ensuring informed consent and confidentiality.
• Establish, manage and oversee child protection referral pathways (identification, registration, referral, follow-up and case closure).
• Maintain and regularly update service mappings, referral directories, case management tools and protection activity trackers.
• Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance and on-the-job training to Social Workers and field staff.
• Ensure safeguarding standards are understood and applied, and that child-friendly spaces and activities meet safety and protection requirements.
• Ensure participation of all groups of children, especially the most vulnerable.
Objective 2: Orphans Sponsorship Programme (OSP)
• Support the Social Workers in all programme matters related to OSP.
• Assist in developing and implementing OSP strategies and protocols in compliance with SIF and donor policies.
• Identify needy and deserving orphans from destitute communities.
• Maintain databases of newly identified orphans, contact details of families/guardians and visit records.
• Ensure 100% payment confirmations with families and maintain accurate documentation.
• Conduct regular monitoring visits to sponsored families and ensure protection-sensitive follow-up.
• Ensure sponsor addresses and correspondence materials are handled securely and meet child protection quality standards.
• Support the collection and documentation of impact stories and success stories.
Objective 3: Protection Mainstreaming & Community Engagement
• Promote protection mainstreaming across SIF programmes by supporting teams to integrate safety, dignity, accessibility, accountability and non-discrimination.
• Sensitize children, caregivers and stakeholders on children’s rights, child protection, safeguarding and responsibilities.
• Lead awareness-raising campaigns on child protection issues and concerns.
• Strengthen community-based child protection mechanisms in coordination with community structures and organizations.
• Mobilize and empower community groups to support child protection activities.
• Coordinate with institutions, government departments, CSOs and humanitarian actors to avoid duplication and strengthen protection response.
Objective 4: Capacity Building
• Provide protection and PSEAH training, guidance and refresher sessions to volunteers, staff and community members.
• Build capacity of project staff, MEAL staff and community stakeholders on child protection, safeguarding, safe referrals and Do-No-Harm approaches.
• Support development of creative, child-friendly activities.
Objective 5: Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation
• Organize assessments and compile field data as per project plans.
• Prepare and submit monthly plans, daily/weekly activity updates, protection reports, incident trend summaries and contextual updates.
• Maintain accurate records of protection activities, attendance sheets, case files and monitoring tools.
• Undertake regular field monitoring visits to assess progress, identify quality issues and propose solutions.
• Support preparation of requisitions for project supplies in line with approved budgets.
• Ensure confidentiality, data protection, informed consent and survivor-centred approaches in all protection-related documentation.
• Use digital tools (Kobo/ODKToolbox) when applicable for data collection and reporting.
Objective 6: Coordination & Representation
• Build strong relationships with relevant departments, government actors, community structures and humanitarian partners.
• Participate in protection coordination meetings and share updates with supervisors.
• Provide timely information to programme and coordination teams to support operational decisions.
• Coordinate with local partners to avoid duplication and strengthen referral mechanisms.
Objective 7: Child-Friendly Activities & Psychosocial Support
• Design and arrange recreational activities to boost children’s confidence and wellbeing.
• Ensure safe, inclusive and child-friendly environments for all activities.
• Support life-skills based education, including child safeguarding, SEA prevention and CP case management.
Objective 8: Other Duties
• Perform any other project-related tasks assigned by the supervisor.
• Ensure all interventions align with SIF strategy, CP Minimum Standards and humanitarian principles.
 

Education
• Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Social Work, Psychology, Project Management, Human Rights or related field.
Experience
• Minimum 2–3 years of relevant experience in protection, child protection, case management or humanitarian programming with an NGO/INGO.
• Experience in emergency or conflict-affected contexts is an advantage.
Knowledge
• Strong understanding of child protection principles, safeguarding, Do-No-Harm and safe referral pathways.
• Experience conducting protection monitoring, FGDs, KIIs, needs assessments and service mapping.
• Good computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with Kobo/OdkToolbox is an asset.
• Strong report writing, communication, negotiation and analytical skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, maintain confidentiality and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to work in remote and uncertain environments.
