 Background:

To support the effective financial management of Operations by providing timely financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, cost control and business partnering support. The role is responsible for monitoring operational financial performance, ensuring accurate and compliant financial transactions, identifying cost optimization opportunities, and supporting management in making informed business decisions.

The role acts as a key finance business partner to Operations and other relevant functions, ensuring strong financial governance, effective controls and alignment between operational activities and financial objectives.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Financial Performance & Business Partnering:

  • Support the Operations Finance Manager in managing and monitoring the financial performance of Operations, including costs, expenses, budgets and operational KPIs 
  • Prepare and provide accurate and timely financial reports, analysis and management information to support operational and business decision-making 
  • Challenge assumptions, expenditure and business plans constructively to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Establish strong working relationships with Operations and key functional stakeholders.

 

Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning:

  • Support the preparation of the annual Operations budget and financial plans.
  • Support periodic forecasting and reforecasting activities, ensuring assumptions are accurate, realistic and aligned with business plans.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast, identifying key variances, risks and opportunities.
  • Provide clear explanations of material variances and recommend appropriate corrective actions.

 

Cost Management & Productivity:

  • Monitor Operations expenditure and cost drivers to ensure effective cost management.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimization, productivity improvement and efficiency gains.
  • Support Operations in evaluating the financial impact of operational initiatives and productivity projects.
  • Review spending patterns and challenge unnecessary or non-value-adding expenditure.
  • Support effective management of fixed and variable operating costs.

 

Financial Reporting & Analysis:

  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of management reports and financial analysis.
  • Provide meaningful commentary on business performance, highlighting key trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities, including accruals, provisions, reconciliations and cost allocations.

 

Financial Governance & Controls:

  • Ensure compliance with BAT financial policies, procedures, delegated authorities and internal control requirements.
  • Review financial transactions and commitments to ensure appropriate approvals and supporting documentation.
  • Identify control gaps and support implementation of appropriate remediation actions.
  • Support internal and external audit activities and ensure timely closure of audit actions.
  • Promote a strong culture of financial discipline and accountability across Operations.

 

CapEx & Business Cases:

  • Support financial evaluation of capital expenditure and operational investment proposals.
  • Prepare or review business cases, financial models and return-on-investment assessments as required.
  • Monitor approved investments against budget and provide visibility on financial performance and commitments.
  • Support post-investment reviews to assess business benefits and financial outcomes.

 

Supplier & Commercial Financial Management:

  • Partner with Procurement and Operations to monitor supplier expenditure and contractual financial commitments.
  • Review supplier invoices, accruals and financial documentation where required.
  • Monitor outstanding financial matters and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Support commercial evaluations and negotiations by providing relevant financial analysis.

 

Additional Information : 

  • Should know the standard as how to deal/communicate with the Team member, Senior Managers/Head of functions while appropriately cascading and following up on agreed directives and actions.
  • Should demonstrate strong prioritization and time-management skills, particularly when managing multiple operational and financial deadlines.
  • High level of analytical, problem-solving and decision-support skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy and data integrity.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational and manufacturing environment.

 

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or a related discipline.
  • Professional accounting qualification or progress toward a recognized qualification is preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Relevant experience in Finance, Management Accounting, Operations Finance, Commercial Finance or a related field.
  • Experience within a multinational, FMCG, manufacturing or similarly complex business environment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, management reporting and financial analysis.

 

Technical Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of management accounting and financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
  • Good understanding of cost accounting and operational cost drivers.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls and governance.
  • Good understanding of CapEx and investment appraisal principles.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial and operational data.

Required:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with strong communication skills.
