 Background:

  • The main objective of this post is to implement the safeguarding policy in the field, having a particular emphasis on SEA and child protection and assuring the country office meets the international standards for SEA prevention. 
  • Under the supervision of the country director for Sudan and the advice of the safeguarding, harassment prevention and equality expert at HQ


 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Leading the implementation of the safeguarding policy at the operational level. 
  • Producing operation plans to mainstream SEA across our humanitarian work in Sudan.
  • Organizing a safeguarding structure identifying safeguarding focal points and leading its coordination. 
  • Helping to incorporate properly the SEA angle into risks analysis and the project cycle.
  • Leading SEA training and assuring zero tolerance against SEA is well understood between our staff, service providers and partner NGOs.  
  • Planning the safeguarding work with service providers and partner NGOs to comply with the requirements of the policy.
  • Identifying and engaging with local women NGOs to help us dismantling gender discrimination behind SEA behaviors. 
  • Producing safeguarding awareness-raising materials for staff and beneficiaries and otyher audiences. 
  • Reinforcing SEA reporting mechanisms. 
  • Helping with SEA case management when needed. 
  • Any other task required to help increasing safeguarding capacity in Sudan. 

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Studies 

  • Master’s degree on gender, child, human rights, protection, or related field.  In the absence of that, substantial field experience working will be required, ideally on sexual exploitation and abuse or gender-based violence. 

Practical experience 

  • 4 years proven experience working on SEAH and/or gender-based violence NGOs, ideally in the humanitarian sector. 
  • Knowledge of sexual exploitation and sexual abuse in the NGO sector and/or

gender-based violence.

  • Experience designing and implementing comprehensive safeguarding and/ or protection systems for aid/humanitarian organisations.
  • Experience in confidential incident reporting systems.
  • Good experience in conducting workshops.
  • Understanding of international best practices on safeguarding and on issues of confidentiality.
  • Experience working in the field in developing countries. 

Personal skills

  • Sensitivity to sexual violence and cultural diversity.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to different audiences, partner NGOs, programme beneficiaries etc. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage appropriately with partners’ staff across various job functions. 
  • Excellent written and spoken fluency in English.

Desirable 

  • Previous work with victims of sexual violence is an asset.
  • Previous experience undertaking SEA investigation is a plus.
  • Previous experience working in African countries and local communities is a plus. 

  • Based in: Port Sudan/Khartoum with required travel to field areas

  • Salary:  1650 $ Gross based on the salary Scale.
  • Position length: 12 Months with Three (03) Months' Probation Period, (Renewable Subject to Funding and Performance)
  • Annual Leave: 21 days/ year
