Duties and responsibilities:
Main Purpose of the position: Providing psychological support to patients according to MSF principles, standards and procedures in order to improve the patients’ mental health. Accountabilities: - Carrying out evaluation of mental health needs of patients and establishing a diagnosis and a plan of treatment. Informing the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow and referring patients to other health professionals whenever necessary, in order to provide the most appropriate treatment and improve the patient's condition
- Implementing the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treatment.
- Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health conditions
- Assisting and training staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of MH activities. Working in close collaboration with translators in order to ensure appropriate terminology and behavior during sessions
- Collecting statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities
- Informing the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective
- Ensuring that all patient information is kept confidential.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities: - Provide mental health care to Sudanese host population patients and Ethiopian/Tigranian refugees, ensuring equitable access to services across camp including patients from host community.
- Adapt assessment and intervention approaches to a conflict-affected, displacement context, considering trauma, grief, loss, and ongoing stressors.
- Identify and manage cases of psychological distress related to conflict, displacement, and violence, using MSF-MHPSS guideline.
- Ensure culturally and linguistically appropriate care through effective collaboration with interpreters (e.g. Arabic, and Tigrinya), maintaining clinical accuracy and confidentiality.
- Implement MSF SGBV protocol, including identification, psychological first aid, and referral of survivors to appropriate medical and protection services.
- Deliver individual, group, and family psychological interventions in line with MSF protocols, including brief and scalable approaches adapted to resource-limited settings.
- Contribute to integration of Mental Health activities within primary healthcare, SRH, nutrition, and other MSF services.
- Participate in community-based MH activities including case identification, psychoeducation, stigma reduction, and referral strengthening in camp and host settings.
- Support supervision and on-the-job coaching of MSF staff, community health workers, and interpreters on basic psychosocial support and case detection.
- Monitor and report key mental health trends and clinical observations specific to the context (e.g. trauma-related disorders, depression, anxiety, SGBV-related distress).
- Ensure strict adherence to MSF confidentiality, neutrality, and do-no-harm principles, particularly in sensitive cases.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
Requirements Education: - Essential degree or diploma in Psychology
Experience: - Essential 2 years’ experience minimum as a Psychologist
- Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries
Language: - Essential: Fluent in Arabic and English (written and oral)
Knowledge: - Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
