Since Geneva Call began its work more than 20 years ago, we have developed a unique methodology to increase awareness of, and respect for, IHL for the protection of civilians in armed conflict. Geneva Call has a unique and unwavering mission to protect civilians. Whilst other organizations also work to improve awareness of humanitarian norms, Geneva Call is the only organization in the world focused exclusively on creating lasting behaviour change among ANSAs to promote the protection of civilians.
Background: Mission Geneva Call is a neutral and impartial non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting respect by Armed Groups, De Facto Authorities (AGDAs) and Provisional Governments for international humanitarian norms in armed conflict and other situations of violence, in particular those related to the protection of civilians. Geneva Call focuses its efforts on banning the use of anti-personnel mines, protecting children from the effects of armed conflict, prohibiting sexual violence in armed conflict, working towards the elimination of gender discrimination, protecting civilian infrastructure, and ensuring humanitarian access.
Context Lead the implementation and adaptation of MEAL systems for Geneva Call’s Sudan Country Mission in Port Sudan, ensuring they are responsive to a complex and rapidly evolving conflict environment. The role focuses on maintaining data quality, supporting real-time monitoring, and strengthening accountability to affected populations. Working closely with programme teams across Sudan, HQ MEAL functions, the MEAL Officer ensures that data collection, analysis, and reporting inform timely, evidence-based decision making and adaptive programming in close coordination with Port Sudan and Nyals programme teams.
Role Under the direct supervision of the Country Director and with a technical reporting line to the Global MEAL Lead, the Country MEAL Officer supports the development, implementation, and management of monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning systems at country level. The role works closely with the Head of Programmes, programme staff, the HQ MEAL Unit, and the Africa regional team including the Regional Head of Programmes, Regional MEAL, and Liaison Coordinator to ensure alignment with organizational MEAL standards and requirements. The position ensures data quality, supports evidence-based decision making, and strengthens accountability to affected populations through effective feedback and learning processes.
