 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

THE PURPOSE

 

The Technical Worker performs simple technical tasks that require minimum qualifications or relevant experience, under supervision



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provides basic technical support under supervision in areas such as electricity, plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding etc.
  • Immediately alerts supervisors to any issues that could have negative consequences or represent a risk technical malfunction, accidents, etc.)
  • Executes tasks that require qualifications under easy supervision, or at times with-out supervision within Electricity, Plumbing and carpentry related field.
  • Conducts periodic servicing of equipment i.e. air conditioners, refrigerators, water dispensers, gas cookers, etc. as per the schedule.
  • Monitor, repair and maintain all Plumbing installations within the delegation buildings as well as the residences rented by the ICRC.
  • Carries out simple and routine tasks such as verifying water levels, delivering material, doing inventories, and inform his supervisor for replenishment.
  • Maintains and repairs equipment and structures according to spoken or written instructions
  • Carry out regular check up on all manholes, drainage system items within the domain of the delegation buildings as well as all ICRC residences and do the necessary repairs if applicable.
  • General service and cleaning for all the water line, tanks and filters.
  • Moves items from one place to another and loads/ offloads as per the request.
  • Conducts routine checks for the preventive maintenance works. 
  • Support the premises team in any non-technical tasks as indicated.
  • Informs his/her supervisor about any issues regarding the premises and helps fixing them.
  • Present both Manual and possibly theoretical technical support to Supervisors upon request, electricity, welding, painting, carpentry, and joinery.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Technical diploma or vocational training in the same field
  • Basic knowledge of English
  • 2 years of workingexperience in similarfield
