About CRS:

CRS’ relief and development work are accomplished through programs of emergency response, HIV, health, agriculture, education, microfinance, and peacebuilding. Since 2004, CRS has provided life-saving assistance to the most vulnerable communities negatively impacted by conflict and natural disasters in areas such as the Darfur region. 

Background: 

CRS Sudan will implement an emergency food security program to address acute food security shocks in Sudan. The project will serve as a food pipeline for affected populations in Central and West Darfur. 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

JOB SUMMARY

The Safe and Dignified Programming (SDP) SPO will provide tools, technical support and oversight on safe and dignified programming initiatives of the Sudan Emergency Project in project locations within the assigned state. The SDP SPO will help ensure the effective implementation of safe programming, protection mainstreaming, feedback, response and complaint mechanism (FCRM), service mapping, and participation in cluster coordination. The SPO will coordinate with the safeguarding units dedicated to staff and partner safeguarding and also support and oversee integration of gender and social inclusion components in the project activities.

 

ROLES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the implementation of project SDP Strategy on Sudan Emergency Project and other CRS projects in the assigned state
  • Coordinate with SEP implementing partners to identify and action project safeguarding priorities and capacity building opportunities, including for example, Safeguarding Checklist & Action Plan, Legal Analysis, and others;
  • Support the implementation of gender specified action plans, and social inclusivity initiatives relevant for the project. 
  • Work with the SDP Program Manager to develop regular updates and reports.
  • Support the capacity building on SDP and Protection Mainstreaming for project staff through training and facilitating regular meetings, etc.
  • Support SEP implementing partner(s) to ensure Essential Service Mapping / referral pathways (project-level) are kept up to date and reviewed on an annual basis;
  • Engage with SDP PM to triage initial safeguarding or protection-related concerns or queries from colleagues; help ensure survivors receive immediate support and/or appropriate referrals following disclosure;
  • Become familiar with, and facilitate linkages with relevant REDI resources, e.g. on responding to microaggressions, unconscious bias, and gender equity;
  • Support the implementation of project FCRMs, ensuring they are functional, safe, accessible, and effective for communities, and especially vulnerable and marginalized populations;
  • Ensure project staff mainly, frontline staff are aware on how to report safeguarding and protection issues, suspicions, and concerns.
  • Support the implementation of Common Humanitarian Standards (CHS) action planning for safeguarding and protection.
  • Participate in and contribute to in-country PSEA/Protection/GBV networks and cluster forums and ensure project staff are kept abreast of global and local initiatives and resources;

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

TYPICAL BACKGROUND, EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field of study (Human Rights Law, Gender, International Development, Social Work, Psychology, etc.) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Two or more years of relevant experience (safeguarding, protection, gender) in an advisory or management role with progressive responsibilities. NGO experience preferred. 
  • Experience advising or providing direction to staff by using effective interpersonal and communication skills; influence others both within and outside of functional areas of responsibility. 
  • Experience creating and rolling out culturally sensitive training and capacity-building programs, materials, and communications.
  • Solid organizational/time management skills: the ability to be flexible and work well under pressure in a fast-paced multi-tasking team environment.
  • Strong analytical and report building skills; strong computer skills including facility with standard desktop applications.
  • Humble and approachable; a problem solver who seeks to find constructive solutions within compliance and policy requirements.

 

Required/Desired Foreign Language: Excellent command of English and Arabic is required.

Travel Required: Approximately 50% travel within Sudan.
