Background:
SAPA is implementing Project to strengthen integrated Primary Health Care (PHC) services with a strong focus on improving nutrition outcomes among vulnerable populations. The project supports the delivery of quality, life-saving nutrition interventions through the integration of Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and Optimal Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) services within existing health systems, in alignment with national guidelines and international standards.
To ensure effective coordination, technical oversight, and quality implementation of nutrition activities under the project, SAPA seeks to recruit a qualified Nutrition Officer. The position will play a key role in leading the implementation of nutrition interventions at facility and community levels, ensuring high-quality service delivery, proper management of nutrition supplies and commodities, and compliance with donor reporting requirements.
The Nutrition Officer will also contribute to strengthening monitoring, documentation, and reporting systems, provide technical supervision and capacity building to facility-based nutrition staff, conduct regular supportive supervision visits, and represent SAPA in nutrition coordination platforms. The role further aims to enhance collaboration and alignment with government authorities and partner organizations to ensure coherent and sustainable program implementation
Duties and responsibilities:
Provide technical and operational support to the project team in the effective implementation, close monitoring, and follow-up of the SAPA Nutrition Project activities including SHSARE
Ensure timely implementation of planned activities in line with acceleration plans, weekly work plans, and monthly schedules.
Review activity progress against approved project plans, targets, and indicators; identify gaps or delays and implement appropriate corrective actions to ensure timely achievement of results.
Lead community mobilization efforts and promote meaningful community engagement and participation throughout project implementation.
Ensure adequate availability and proper management of nutrition supplies by coordinating closely with the logistics team for forecasting, pre-positioning, and appropriate storage.
Ensure quality delivery of Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counselling sessions in accordance with national standards and protocols.
Ensure quality delivery of (CMAM) program in accordance with national standards and protocols.
Ensure all project activities are implemented in full compliance with Ministry of Health (SMOH) guidelines and relevant national policies.
Maintain active coordination and networking with key nutrition stakeholders, including the State Ministry of Health (SMOH) and UNICEF.
Represent SAPA in state-level Nutrition Cluster meetings and other relevant technical coordination forums as required.
Provide supportive supervision and on-the-job training to nutrition health workers and facility-based staff to strengthen service quality and capacity.
Compile, review, and submit monthly nutrition reports for the Nutrition Cluster, HPM, and SAPA in a timely, accurate, and consistent manner.
Engage in emergency response as and when required by the organization.
Support implementation of other activities of the project as soon as the manager and team identify the gap.
The Nutrition Officer will report directly to the State Coordinator and will receive technical and functional oversight from the Nutrition Specialist. Performance will be assessed based on the timely submission of accurate reports, effective budget management and appropriate utilization of funds, as well as feedback from the Program Manager, State Coordinator, and Nutrition Specialist. Input from colleagues within the programme area, at country level, and from partners will also contribute to performance evaluation
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
A university degree in one of the following fields: Nutrition, Public Health, Nutritional Epidemiology, Global/International Health and Nutrition, Health/Nutrition Research, Health Policy and/or Management, Health Sciences, or another related Health & Nutrition field.
A minimum of two years of professional experience in a developing country in one or more of the following areas: Nutrition, Public Health, Nutrition Planning and Management, or Maternal, Infant, and Child Health/Nutrition care.
Experience in Health/Nutrition programs within a UN system agency, NGO, or INGO is considered an asset.
Fluency in both English and Arabic is required.
