 Background:

The Senior Protection Officer role in Tawila, North Darfur, is a high-stakes position that combines strategic oversight with direct management of life-saving services in one of the world's most challenging humanitarian environments.

Key Responsibilities & Contextual Notes

Program Leadership & StrategyLead the development and implementation of protection strategies and projects. Guide field teams in proactive and reactive protection activities. Ensure all interventions adhere to international protection standards, donor agreements, and organizational policies.
Team Management & SupervisionDirectly supervise national protection staff (officers, case workers, PSS facilitators). Manage team performance, support professional development, and ensure staff welfare in a high-stress environment. Conduct recruitment and capacity-building initiatives.
Technical Guidance & Quality AssuranceProvide technical oversight for case management, psychosocial support (PSS), and community-based protection. Lead the analysis of protection monitoring data to identify trends and inform advocacy. Ensure safe, confidential, and survivor-centered service delivery.
Coordination & RepresentationRepresent the organization in key coordination forums, including the Protection Cluster/Sector Working Group in North Darfur. Liaise with local authorities, UN agencies, NGO partners, and community leaders to ensure a coordinated response.
Security, Operations & ReportingEnsure the safety and security of staff, advising on security matters in line with organizational policy. Oversee activity planning, monitoring, financial management, and timely donor reporting.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Education: An advanced university degree in International Law, Human Rights, Social Sciences, Psychology, or a related field.
  • ExperienceMinimum 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in humanitarian protection. Prior experience in Sudan, particularly Darfur, is highly desirable. Proven experience in team management, project cycle management, and capacity building is essential.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of International Humanitarian and Human Rights Law. Expertise in protection case management, child protection, and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) response. Experience in security management and working in insecure environments is critical.
  • Languages: Full professional proficiency in English is required for reporting and coordination. Fluency in Arabic is essential for field operations, stakeholder engagement, and team management.
