Background:
We are seeking a motivated professional who will support MSF’s operational communications in Sudan by producing and managing high-quality social media content to strengthen MSF’s visibility, acceptance, and positioning.
As a social media officer, you will contribute to MSF’s operational communications objectives in Sudan by producing, curating, and disseminating high-quality social media content, engaging with online communities, and supporting MSF’s positioning, acceptance, and visibility in a highly complex and evolving context, in line with MSF’s principle of témoignage.
Duties and responsibilities:
1. Content production, curation, and publication
Produces, edits, curates, and publishes impactful content for MSF social media accounts in Sudan (primarily X and Facebook).
Keeps up to date with new technologies and trends, suggesting creative formats to optimize MSF’s use of digital tools and channels.
Ensures that MSF communications guidelines (ethical standards, diversity, equity and inclusion, audiovisual, branding, logo, etc.) are followed in all content directly collected and produced.
When necessary, executes simple paid campaigns or posts to increase the reach of MSF’s digital communications.
Maintains and regularly updates a content calendar for production and dissemination on MSF social media channels and schedules posts accordingly.
2. Community management
Interacts with followers and responds to audience comments and questions in a timely manner.
Develops FAQs for recurring audience questions and prepares specific Q&As as needed for relevant operational/emergency topics.
Reports problematic comments on MSF’s social media accounts and proposes appropriate management approaches.
3. Digital monitoring, social listening, and crisis management
Produces and shares weekly monitoring reports of online MSF mentions and relevant contextual information.
Monitors topics relevant to MSF and online mentions of MSF using tools such as Talkwalker, CrowdTangle, and Google Alerts.
Reports problematic online mentions of MSF to supervisors.
Identifies misinformation and disinformation campaigns affecting MSF and proposes ways to address them.
Supports online monitoring during crisis management situations.
4. Digital strategy: implementation and tactics
Suggests improvements to communications initiatives based on approved operational objectives, defined target audiences, analytics, and digital engagement outputs.
Supports the development and implementation of a digital strategy aligned with the overall operational communications strategy.
Ensures digital tidiness and security of social media accounts (application of social media security guidelines, review and updating of account details, and brand consistency).
Uses online marketing techniques to support communications objectives, when appropriate.
5. Reporting
Periodically reports on performance and contributes to the definition of key performance indicators (KPIs) for MSF’s social media accounts in Sudan.
Evaluates audience engagement and analyses the impact of activities using analytics dashboards.
6. Internal stakeholder engagement and collaboration
Encourages MSF staff to adhere to social media guidelines.
When required for communications strategy, recruits, trains, and supports MSF social media ambassadors or content curators within projects.
Collaborates closely with other MSF communications team members in Sudan to coordinate initiatives and content dissemination.
Liaises with social media and digital experts within the MSF communications network (Digital Focal Point, Digital Advisors, Digital Working Group) for technical support and strategic guidance.
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
Education
University degree in Communications or a related field.
Candidates without a University of College education may be considered if they possess significant additional experience (5-plus years) in social media management, monitoring and content production
Experience
Essential: At least 2 years of professional experience in social media management and community building. With demonstrated working knowledge of digital media and design tools, including Final Cut, Adobe After Effects (AE), Photoshop, and Canva.
Social media content production and messaging, social media monitoring and reporting
Experience working in humanitarian or emergency contexts is considered an asset.
Strong understanding of the strategic use of digital tools in MSF countries of operation is desirable.
Languages
Minimum B2 level in English and native or near-native proficiency in Arabic.
Knowledge
Understand the strategic use of digital tools in MSF countries of operations
Social media landscaping, community management, disinformation and analysis,
Social media monitoring / reporting,
Design and evaluate social media strategies/plans,
Managing institutional social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, …).
