MSF-Swiss is seeking to employ 1 (one) qualified candidate in the Khartoum Project for the position of BioMed Specialist.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Main Purpose of the position:

Carrying out assessments and ensuring the implementation, maintenance and monitoring of the Biomed activities including repairs, maintenance of equipment and planning of biomed orders according to MSF protocols and standards in order to ensure the correct use and efficient functioning of the Biomed equipment of the Project.

 

Responsibilities

  • Defining procedures and managing the implementation, monitoring, maintenance and correct functioning of the biomedical workshop, including spare parts, technical documentations, tools, etc., including the following tasks: 
    • Organizing and participating in the installation and replacement of the equipment and following up the different maintenance contracts (proposing renewal to the functional and the line manager before they expire).
    • Identifying the equipment requiring after sale services and ensuring their return in medical services. Performing fault diagnosis, curative and preventive maintenance, annual diagnosis and certification for those items of equipment for which specialized training has been received
    • Managing inventory of spare parts and back-up equipment at the project level and checking and advising on international orders for consumables and spare parts. 
  • Managing the biomed technicians in the project if any and elaborating their activities planning and in close coordination with HR department and LTL, planning and supervising the associated processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development and internal communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility and reporting back to the line and functional managers.
  • Aiding the project’s Biomedical Technicians when maintenance work requires further assistance, documentation or additional tools. Taking the lead in organizing user training where required.
  • Ensuring the proper documentation, filing and the compilation of the installation and maintenance done or required as well as defining functioning standards and monitoring systems for Biomed and cold chain equipments
  • Performing delegated tasks as defined in his/her job description and according to the line and functional managers.

 

Context Specific Responsibilities

  • Keeping the project BioMed and cold Chain equipments inventory up to date, using the dedicated tools.
  • Ensuring all medical equipment and cold chain are functioning within their intended range.
  • Installation and Maintenance: Install, test, troubleshoot, and provide technical support for biomedical equipment according to MSF guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Quality and Compliance: Perform safety checks, ensure equipment meets MSF standards.
  • Collaboration and Training: Work with the project medical team to provide training for the use of all BioMed equipment.
  • Keeping track record of all documentation related to BioMed and cold chain equipment including but not limited to: equipment uses and repair manual, installation report, periodic maintenance reports, curative maintenance reports, identification records, etc. in accordance with MSF guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Advising the medical team on the proper equipment to use for a specific context.
  • Responsible and follow up of CMMS (Computerized Management Maintenance System) for all biomed and cold chain equipment in the project.
  • Responsible for inventory and scanning all biomed and cold chain equipment in the project.
  • Responsible of Log Fundamental follow up for biomed and cold chain equipment.
  • Responsible of monthly reporting to line and functional managers.
  • Insuring all medical and cold chain equipment are functioning within their intended limits by the use of dedicated test equipment

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education: 

  • Essential: Bachelor’s degree as biomedical engineer
  • Demonstrable technical skills and understanding

Experience: 

  • Essential: 2 years’ experience as a biomedical engineer.
  • Pedagogical skills are an asset-

Language: Essential: Fluent Arabic and English.

 

Knowledge: 

  • Essential: computer literacy (word, excel, internet, other programs)
