The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

THE PURPOSE

 

The Mechanic’s Helper helps to maintain and repair ICRC vehicles and other logistics equipment under close supervision and according to ICRC standards. He contributes to keeping all equipment and vehicles well maintained and ready for use at all times. 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Performs maintenance and repairs that require no specific technical skills on equipment and structures according to oral or written instructions.
  • Helps the Mechanic carry out their work. 
  • Retrieves vehicles in the field. 
  • Assists other workshop team members when needed.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

DESIRED PROFILE AND SKILLS

 

  • Strongly motivated by humanitarian work
  • Able to work under pressure in a potentially dangerous environment

 

CERTIFICATIONS / EDUCATION REQUIRED

 

  • Primary school education.
  • Basic command of English and/or French an asset.
  • Driving license
  • Basic knowledge of welding and electricity.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical safety procedures.
  • Good knowledge of the local area and integration into a professional network
  • Good physical condition

 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

  • Similar work experience desirable.
