 Background:

Recently CARE received funding from the European Union-EU to implement a “SAFER” Sudan project, an integrated, multi-sectoral approach that combines strengthening sustainable livelihoods, economic empowerment, access to basic services, promoting adaptive capacity, protection and conflict mitigation in the current context. The main goal is to enhance socio-economic integration of children and young people and protection of the human rights of groups at risk in displacement affected communities in Sudan. In doing so, it will promote greater inclusion of women, youth, people with disabilities, and other marginalized groups in individual project activities, especially in the highly affected areas such as Darfur and Khartoum. The project is implemented in partnership with two INGO and several local partners with CARE International as a consortium leader.
CARE therefore seeks to recruit a protection officer who will be responsible for the implementation of the SAFER Sudan protection related activities as per guidelines and protocols specified in each intervention areas in close coordination with the project manager, engaging the national partners and provide timely quality reports about the achievement of project objectives and targets.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Program implementation with line ministry and other relevant institutions / sector (55%)
  • Monitoring, Reporting and documentation (25%)
  • Contribute to the success of the CARE partnership approach (10%)
  • Uphold CARE Values and contribute to CIS shared priorities (10%)

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • University degree in a relevant field like Sociology, Social work, social anthropology, Psychology, Development studies, gender in development/emergencies, community development, or related fields

     
  • At least three years of experience working in gender and protection interventions

     
  • Experience with Case management, PSS, foster care, counseling, homeless/street children and referrals.

     
  • Knowledge of current issues in protection, gender and GBV and how emergencies can impact women, men, boys, and girls differently.

     
  • Demonstrated understanding of protection issues, including forced displacement, GBV prevention and response, and child protection.

     
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on creative and innovative solutions.

     
  • Experience working with diverse communities and managing teams in challenging environments.

     
  • Experience living and working within conflict-affected communities is beneficial

     
  • Prior experience in behavior change and communication strategies related to gender norms and socio-cultural issues in Sudan

     
  • Strong community facilitation skills and familiarity with participatory rural appraisal tools and approaches.
     
  • Languages: Good knowledge of both written and spoken Arabic and English languages is a requirement for this position.
