Position Summary

The Health & Nutrition Officer will oversee the daily management of the overall health and nutrition program implementation in South Aljazeer & Wad Madni localities while ensuring quality reporting, monitoring and accountability under the guidance and supervision of the Health and Nutrition Coordinator. S/he will

 ensure all health and nutrition program interventions are strategic, effective, meet designated goals and objectives, are informed by and participated in

 by targeted beneficiaries and are delivered on time. S/he will coordinate with major internal stakeholders to ensure program activities are implemented 

as planned and are being monitored to achieve quality results and to make sure we are on scope, target and budget. He/She is expected to be a high

 performer in implementation requirements and timelines observation, project cycle management, team management and team building, and support 

functions. 

 

Essential Position Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Program Management

  • Coordinate daily program activities to ensure timely implementation of health and nutrition interventions.
  • Oversee the implementation of health and nutrition programs in South Aljazeer & Wad Madni localities, ensuring adherence to the project’s scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Develop and monitor work plans to ensure that health and nutrition objectives and targets are met.
  • Report on progress to the Health and Nutrition Coordinator, ensuring that any deviations from the plan are quickly addressed.
  • Monitor stock and supplies required for health and nutrition services, ensuring timely procurement and distribution to the field.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor guidelines, and local health and nutrition regulations.

2. Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning

  • Develop and implement monitoring plans for tracking program progress and results, in collaboration with MEAL teams.
  • Collect and analize health and nutrition data to assess the impact of interventions on target populations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of program achievements, challenges, and lessons learned to stakeholders.
  • Lead regular field monitoring visits to assess program quality and ensure corrective actions are taken where necessary.
  • Facilitate feedback mechanisms for beneficiaries to ensure their concerns are addressed and integrated into program improvements.
  • Contribute to learning sessions and after-action reviews to document best practices and areas for improvement.

3. Safeguarding

  • Ensure all team members and partners are aware of and comply with safeguarding policies.
  • Regularly assess potential risks to the safety and dignity of beneficiaries, particularly women and children, and take corrective measures.
  • Report and document safeguarding incidents in line with organizational policies and local laws.
  • Train staff and volunteers on safeguarding practices to create a safe environment for beneficiaries.
  • Ensure confidential reporting mechanisms for beneficiaries are active to report safeguarding concerns.

4. Human Resources Management

  • Lead and manage the health and nutrition program team, ensuring staff have clear roles and responsibilities.
  • Provide capacity-building opportunities for staff, including training and mentorship in health and nutrition programming and project management.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to review progress, address challenges, and ensure alignment on program goals.
  • Facilitate performance appraisals and provide constructive feedback to staff, recognizing high performers and addressing under performance.
  • Promote teamwork and collaboration among health and nutrition program staff and support staff.
  • Ensure staff well being by maintaining a positive and supportive work environment, especially in challenging field conditions.

5. Partnership Management

  • Liaise with the SMOH, national partners and state level cluster teams to ensure effective coordination of program activities.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with key stakeholders to share updates on program progress and challenges.
  • Build strong relationships with local health and nutrition authorities, ensuring the program aligns with national healthand nutrition policies and
  •  guidelines.
  • Actively coordinate with the national partners by having regular meetings with them and also conducting monitoring visits to their project sites.
  • Engage with community leaders and beneficiary representatives to ensure their input and participation in health and nutrition interventions, 
  • fostering local ownership.

6. Technical Oversight and Quality Assurance

  • Ensure adherence to FMOH, SMOH and WHO health and nutrition standards and best practices for nutrition and public health interventions.
  • Conduct regular on-site supervision of health facilities to ensure the quality of clinical services, including diagnosis, treatment, and patient care.
  • Monitor and ensure proper drug storage conditions, including temperature control, stock rotation, and timely disposal of expired drugs in
  •  line with national guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Services Coordinator to conduct diagnosis and treatment audits, ensuring accuracy in clinical decision-making and adherence to treatment protocols.
  • Organize on-the-job training for seconded staff, building their capacity in key areas such as infection control,CMAM Protocol, drug administration, and clinical care.
  • Lead health facility assessments to evaluate infrastructure, equipment, staffing, and service delivery quality in supported clinics.
  • Ensure infection prevention and control (IPC) measures are strictly adhered to across all supported health facilities.
  • Develop and implement quality improvement plans based on findings from facility assessments and audits.
  • Coordinate supportive supervision for field teams, providing technical guidance and addressing gaps in service delivery.
  • Attend and actively participate in health and nutrition cluster meetings to ensure alignment of the organization's interventions with the 

broader health sector response and coordinate with other partners.

  • Work with local health and nutrition authorities and health facility managers to ensure services are patient-centered and meet community needs.
  • Analize clinical data , nutrition data and patient feedback to identify trends, gaps, and areas for quality improvement.

Qualifications & Requirements 

 

This position demands a dynamic individual with a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast-paced environment. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, nutrition or Public Health
  • Two years’ successful experience in a similar/related (not below officer level) position in RI or similar INGO 
  • Relevant program management experience in managing development and/or humanitarian assistance programs in similar conflict settings; 
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast-paced environment. Strategic thinking, creativity, flexibility and strong work ethics are highly valued. 
  • Excellent program development experience and demonstrated experience with a range of international donors with solid programming, excellent program development and fundraising skills.
  • Excellent English writing and communication skills
  • Computer literacy and well-versed with MS package, MS Project
