Duties and responsibilities: Job Summary Under the overall supervision of the Health and Nutrition coordinator and Health Manager , the Pharmacy Officer will be responsible for managing pharmaceutical supply and distribution across all RI-supported health facilities and mobile clinics in Red Sea State. This includes overseeing drug inventory and consumption tracking, ensuring rational use of medicines, supporting field-based pharmacy and medical staff, and coordinating with the State Ministry of Health (MOH) pharmacy department. ensure the effective functioning of the central medical warehouse and peripheral stores. Essential Job Functions 1. Pharmacy Management at Health Facilities and Mobile Clinics - Ensure that each health facility and mobile clinic has an organized pharmacy with proper storage and documentation.
- Supervise the correct use of stock/bin cards and ensure they are regularly updated.
- Monitor environmental conditions (temperature, light, moisture) and ensure compliance with storage guidelines at facility level.
- Support health facility teams in timely request and receipt of pharmaceuticals.
2. Drug Distribution and Stock Monitoring - Coordinate with RI logistics and health staff to ensure that medicines are distributed to facilities and clinics based on actual needs.
- Ensure proper documentation for all medicines received and disbursed at facility level.
- Monitor expiration dates and promote First-Expiry-First-Out (FEFO) practices.
3. Drug Consumption Reporting and Analysis - Collect monthly drug consumption reports from all supported facilities and mobile clinics.
- Analyze data to identify trends, gaps, and risks such as overuse, underuse, or stockouts.
- Share regular consumption reports and recommendations with the Health Manager for informed decision-making.
4. Capacity Building and Supportive Supervision - Conduct regular field visits to provide on-the-job coaching for dispensers, pharmacy assistants, and medical assistants.
- Train facility staff on rational drug use, accurate documentation, and proper inventory management.
- Support quality assurance for pharmaceutical services at the point of care.
5. Coordination and Compliance - Liaise with the State MOH pharmacy department on matters related to supply approvals, compliance, and reporting.
- Ensure RI’s Pharmacy SOPs and relevant national guidelines are implemented and followed in all facilities.
- Promote good collaboration among facility staff, community stakeholders, and RI program teams.
