Alight came to Sudan in 2004 as one of the first humanitarian responders to the emergency needs of some 500,000 war-affected IDPs and host populations in the Tulus and Gereida corridors in South Darfur. In 2014, Alight expanded services its reach to include East Darfur. Today, Alight serves displaced populations and host communities in Kassala, Gedaref, West Kordofan, and East and South Darfur states. Alight provides lifesaving humanitarian action, recovery, and development services in these five states, with a country office based in Khartoum.

Field offices in Kassala, Gedaref, Nyala, El Daein,serve as the key state hubs for program delivery. Alight’s staff is more than 99 percent Sudanese, with nearly 800 full-time staff joined by over 400 incentive and community health and protection workers in delivering lifesaving programs and durable solutions in Sudan.

Alight is registered in Sudan and works closely with Federal and State Line Ministries to carry out its humanitarian and development mandates.

 Background:

GBV Assistant will be responsible for providing direct case management services to survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), ensuring a survivor-centered approach, and linking them to appropriate support services. The role includes conducting assessments, developing care plans, providing psychosocial support, and ensuring coordinated service delivery. The Caseworker will work under the supervision of the Protection Officer to ensure high-quality intervention and compliance with GBV guiding principles and international standards. The role does not involve direct response to GBV cases or GBV prevention activities.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Case Management & Service Provision:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of survivors, ensuring confidentiality and a survivor-centered approach.
  • Develop individualized case management plans, including safety planning, emotional support, and referrals to specialized services.
  • Provide direct psychosocial support and empowerment-based counseling for survivors.
  • Facilitate access to essential services such as medical, legal, and protection services through effective referrals and coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Follow up with survivors to ensure service provision meets their needs and rights.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of cases in compliance with data protection protocols.

Community Engagement & Outreach:

  • Strengthen the referral pathways by liaising with healthcare providers, law enforcement, legal aid organizations, and other service providers.
  • Support community-based protection mechanisms and contribute to survivor-led initiatives where feasible.
  • Engage with community stakeholders to promote safe and supportive environments for survivors.

Capacity Building & Coordination:

  • Participate in GBV-related training sessions and capacity-building initiatives.
  • Support the Protection Officer in training community volunteers, local organizations, and service providers on survivor support.
  • Represent the organization in relevant working groups and interagency coordination meetings at the field level.
  • Contribute to the development of IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials for awareness campaigns.
  • Reporting & Documentation:
  • Ensure proper documentation of case management activities while maintaining confidentiality and data protection standards.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on case management activities, challenges, and trends to the Protection Officer.
  • Maintain and update case files and referral records in accordance with organizational and donor requirements.
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation efforts by providing necessary data and insights on GBV interventions.
  • Develop and update the monthly GBV database to track progress and ensure consistency in data reporting.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Gender Studies, Law, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in case management, psychosocial support, or protection programming, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of guiding principles, survivor-centered approaches, and case management best practices.
  • Strong understanding of referral pathways and service mapping for survivors.
  • Experience working in conflict-affected or displacement settings is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with survivors and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Arabic required; English is an asset.
