Background: Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI) is an international Italian NGO established in 1965. Since its establishment, COOPI has been undertaking activities to help and empower the poor and needy in different countries. COOPI has started its operation in Sudan since 2004 supporting people in need living Sudan which are affected both by natural and human related disasters including drought and conflict. COOPI-Sudan focuses on two main programmatic pillars which are Emergency Response and Early Recovery programs. The Protection Coordinator is to assist the COOPI Mission in ensuring implementation of activities in programme sites; Work with senior management in Country, Area and Sub-Offices to foster a strong culture and leadership that support protection mainstreaming, gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE) across programming and operations. Also is responsible for nurturing relationships with open dialogue and mutual respect with all stakeholders. He/She will be in charge of ensuring the adaptation of specific Protection SoP, contributing together with the MEAL Unit to the elaboration of tools that will be used by the Protection Team on the field (including Case Management SoP, data Collection Tools, etc..), that will be adapted to the Clusters guidelines

Duties and responsibilities:
Planning - Work with senior management in Country, Area and Sub-Offices to foster a strong culture and leadership that support protection mainstreaming, gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE) across programming and operations.
- Carry out gender and age analyses, protection assessments and advise the Coordination Office on the implementation of the Protection Action Plans;
Implementation - Support programme staff to integrate gender equality mainstreaming, women’s empowerment and protection throughout the programme management cycle (design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation);
- Support the finalization of specific tools and guidelines to assist program staff mainstream both protection and gender in their activities;
- Undertake field trips to oversee and support field operations;
- In collaboration with the relevant programme staff ensure gender, protection and SEA issues can be captured through the Beneficiary Feedback Mechanism and responded to appropriately;
- Devise and support the implementation of Protection capacity development initiatives.
- Train colleagues on gender; protection analysis, response development and integration of these areas in COOPI’s work.
- Train field staff on Protection/GBV/Case Management SoP and Tools
- Support the protection team on the field in the implementation of the activities and ensure their monitoring together with the PM and the MEAL Unit
- Attending all the relevant Clusters and ensuring proper reporting through Activity Info.
Reporting - Provide inputs into MEAL data collection, analysis and reporting formats to ensure there is room for collection and reporting of Protection indicators in all COOPI projects.
- Prepare/Edit narrative reports ensuring that Protection indicators are collected, analysed and incorporated into donor and related reports.
External Coordination - Represent COOPI in all relevant inter-agency gender, protection and Accountability to Affected People meetings and other coordination mechanisms established.
- Participate in relevant PSEA Focal Points Network and train staff and partners to prevent sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA);
- Liaise with colleagues and any partners working on programmatic complaints and feedback systems in the country to ensure coherence, collaboration and cross referral between systems.
Project development Provide all technical inputs for the project proposal requirements and indicative costs ensuring that Protection indicators or considerations are incorporated into the project proposal

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
- Minimum Qualification required: Bachelor’s degree (holder) in Human Rights, Law, international Development, or related fields.
- At least 3 years’ experience in managing a GBV/ Gender/Protection project
- Training in Law, International Development, Human Rights, Political Science, or related disciples or certificates; additional experience in child protection programming is desired
- Professional experience related to GBV prevention and response in conflict and post conflict settings and skills in undertaking conflict analysis.
- Knowledge of international humanitarian standards for GBV prevention, protection and response.
- Solid experience in training and capacity building experience, particularly using participatory approaches and methods in for training related to different components of GBV programming.
- Experience with developing and implementing GBV programmes, particularly monitoring and evaluation.
- Experience with working with civil society actors and local community leaders.
- Knowledge of international best practices, key international policy processes and frameworks related to GBV prevention, protection and response.
Language Proficiency - Fluency in English (written and spoken. (compulsory).
- Fluency Written and oral Arabic. (compulsory).
