 Background:

WHO WE ARE

 

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

 

THE PURPOSE

 

The Medical Warehouse Supervisor ensures that medical warehousing activities are properly carried out for stored medical, Veterinary and Physical Rehabilitation Program products in line with standard operating procedures (SOPs). S/he organizes and plans the medical warehouse’s activities. Supervises and trains the medical warehouse team under his responsibility.

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Is responsible for the management of the medical warehouses in Port Sudan and Atbara. 
  • Ensures that goods are received, stored and dispatched according to procedure; immediately reports any problems or discrepancies.
  • Ensures that stock is rotated and picked according to the principles of first-in-first-out and/or first-expired-first-out.
  • Ensures that warehouse space is well utilized and makes recommendations for layout changes.
  • Ensures that goods are properly segregated within the warehouse.
  • Ensures that warehouse regulations are applied.
  • Ensures that there is proper pest control and hygiene in the warehouse.
  • Records information in the logistics IT system.
  • Ensures that bin cards and stock cards are kept up to date.
  • Provides statistics and other reporting.
  • Organizes inventory counts and initiates claim reports.
  • Ensures that risks are mitigated by performing the controls assigned to his/her role as described in the Logistics Risk and Control Matrix.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Degree in logistics, administration or equivalent.
  • Good command of spoken and written English and Arabic
  • Computer literacy; good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Four years' work experience in a similar field.
  • People-management experience.
  • Strongly motivated by humanitarian work
  • Able to work under pressure in a potentially dangerous environment
