 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Drive vehicle for official travel and business, or as requested by direct supervisor
  • Maintain a high standard of service to both internal and external guests.
  • Ensure punctuality and safe transport.
  • Observe the road and traffic laws and regulations of the Republic of the Sudan.
  • Ensure that safe driving practices are adhered to including local driving codes and internally agreed standards.
  • Advise staff to always wear seatbelts while on board of the vehicle and ensure that no non-IRC passengers are not transported unless authorised by management /convoy leader

Car Security & Maintenance

  • Keep the vehicle clean, tidy and in good working condition always
  • Always secure the vehicle during travel and while parked.
  • Establish a regular/day-to-day maintenance check to the assigned vehicle: check oil, water, battery, brakes, tyres, etc.
  • Perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs, prepare vehicle spare parts inventory.
  • Assist the Logistic Officer to ensure vehicle insurance and registration is updated according to schedule

Car Logbook maintenance

  • Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, maintenance, daily checklist etc

Communications and Working Relationships:

  • Establish appropriate information-sharing relationships with staff in similar positions within other INGOs and car rental companies.

Manage International Rescue Committee –Sudan relationship with other drivers/car rental companies ensuring driving standards, passenger safety requirements and driver courtesy and punctuality is achieved 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • At least 2 years of experience working with INGOs or UN agencies.
  • Education: - secondary Sudanese certificate, or completion / is required  with some basic English language.

Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours Required to Achieve Role’s Objectives:

Knowledge 

  • Understanding of transportation law.
  • Good traffic judgment. 
  • Good knowledge about car mechanics

Skills

  • Excellent driving skills
  • Valid driver license 
  • Arabic; English speaking or writing preferred.
  • Ability to work in a challenging, post-conflict complex environment.

Desirable:

  • Computer literacy and familiar with Microsoft word and excel package.

Physical Environment and Demands: 

  • This is a Port Sudan/Gedarif based, full-time position with regular and extensive travel to International Rescue Committee   program areas in Sudan (maximum 80% of time for driving).
  • Willing to work long and irregular hours, shift duty and on public holidays as required.
  • Willing to take regular and extensive travel to International Rescue Committee -Sudan projects areas in region.
