 Duties and responsibilities:

Job summary: 

 

Under the managerial supervision of Health & Nutrition Coordinator, The Health and Nutrition Officer is responsible for the success of the mission’s health strategy and the quality of current and future health programs at the definition, implementation, and evaluation phases. He / She provides support to program managers who report to him/her on the basis of a dotted-line relationship. 

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Monitor program implementation against indicators detailed in the project Logical Framework and implementation plans and RI’s Quality Framework.
  • Conduct field visits to monitor and verify program activities and quality relative to stated targets and standards. 
  • Provide mentoring and capacity building of Community volunteers about Health and Nutrition and promote coordination.
  • Ensure quality health and nutrition promotion sessions are provided at the supported Health Facilities.
  • Support the Maternal Newborn Child Health training for Health Workers and Community Volunteers.
  • Support quality data collection of activities conducted in the facilities and Communities.
  • Promote increasing awareness of appropriate health and nutrition behaviors in project communities and ensure behavior change materials are visible in Project supported communities and health facilities.
  • Support the development of case studies and success stories from Programme implementation.
  • Support partners to alter activities/strategies in light of context changes or operational challenges when necessary.
  • Ensure proper, professional, documented and clear communication with project partners regarding all aspects of the project activities including timely submission of project reports and compliance with financial policies. 
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with implementing partners, addressing issues as they arrive. 
  • Plan and coordinate activities with implementing partners for project visibility according to the guidelines of the multiple donors and Relief International.
  • Submit monthly and quarterly progress reports to the Health lead, promptly. 
  • Support the development, maintenance and updating of project work plans, notifying relevant staff of any course correction that is required. 
  • Assist with preparing timely monitoring reports and expected deliverables (technical and financial) for submission to donors. 
  • Support the development of communication materials.
  • Assist in Programme review and evaluation exercises.
  • Consult with children and families with regard to the quality and impact of the projects on the protection of children, provide feedback and propose the means to improve project effectiveness.

 

Working in humanitarian / emergency contexts 

  • Technically support the carrying out of a rapid assessment of the protection risks to children with particular reference to unaccompanied and separated children, family tracing and reunification, management of Child-Friendly Spaces and other potential responses. 
  • Support in strengthening the emergency Programme’s protection portfolio through capacity building of field staff, of partnerships and networks. 
  • Design and establish appropriate feedback mechanisms that are contextual, effective, accessible and safe for children and their careers, and that ensure that feedback is recorded, reviewed and acted upon.

Strengthen coordination and external communication.

  • Maintain links with other projects (RI or inter-agency) in the field. 
  • With the agreement of the Health lead, represent with Government, relevant departments, partner organizations, donors and the public, as well as within the wider organization.
  • Promote the integration of the different components of the health and nutrition Programme and that inputs from relevant partners are incorporated as appropriate.

 

Advocacy 

  • Always act as SC advocate to prevent and respond to child protection concerns and show zero tolerance for abuse, violence, exploitation and neglect. 
  • Assist in maintaining functional networks with other actors for advocacy and research in advancing maternal child and newborn health. 

Support in capacity building

  • Support the development, carrying out and documentation of training for partners and facilitate as appropriate. 
  • Technically support partners and staff with case management for the most vulnerable children. 

Administrative and financial: 

  • Coordinate with the responsible accounting and administrative staff for financial processes. 

Monitor the procurement of goods and services for the project and ensure execution according to the rules and guidelines established by relevant donors.


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

 

Mandatory Qualifications required:

  • A university degree in Medical Science is required. A university degree in a Public Health or any related Specialization field is desirable.
  • Proven experience of a minimum of 3 years in over programs in humanitarian contexts.

Languages:

Fluent written and spoken in Arabic (native) and intermediate written and spoken in English.
