DRC Sudan

DRC has been present in Sudan since 2004, delivering life-saving programming in protection, emergency response, shelter, food security and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, camp management, and humanitarian mine action. DRC has implemented projects in Central Darfur, South Kordofan, Gedaref, Port Sudan, and White Nile.  Sudan hosts one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, with over 3.7 million internally displaced people and over 1.1 million refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Central African Republic, Chad, Yemen and Syria. Against a background of political crisis, Sudan faces economic and social turmoil, with sharp increases in food and energy costs, further exacerbated by disease outbreaks and ongoing conflict.

Overall  Purpose of the Role :

The IMO is responsible for the management, analysis and sharing of data related to programme activities with the aim to provide reliable, quality and comprehensive information that supports compliance and evidenced-based mine action programming.       

The role also doubles as an IT Assistant responsible for fixing Network issues, support and maintain, troubleshoot, upgrade and repair computer hardware, software and peripherals on a day to day basis for the IT hardware and software systems in use by DRC Staff. Able to independently manage DRC systems as well as implement new systems, manage IT equipment, draw up strategies, follow IT assets list and write reports



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Information management strategy and standards

  • Contribute to the development of DRC’s information management strategy by reviewing information needs and gaps, evaluating current information management processes and tools and drafting an information collection and management plan in support of DRC’s mine action operations
  • Ensure the compliance of information systems and processes with the applicable standards and guidelines related to information management and data protection, including DRC’s internal guidelines and National Mine Action Standards

Data management and analysis

  • Ensure effective data management by developing data collection tools and methodologies, designing and managing database systems for data management and analysis purposes
  • Support monitoring and evaluation activities through designing data collection tools, methodologies, training in data collection to project teams and data analysis
  • Ensure availability of updated and quality information for informed decision-making by the programme team by identifying pertinent variables, including analyzing and interpreting multiples datasets, identifying trends and patterns in collected mine action-related date

Information dissemination

  • Draft information products such as reports, charts and infographics by turning data into graphic products to facilitate the dissemination of information to external stakeholders for the purpose of reporting, information sharing and advocacy. To this end, designs the layouts of reporting and presentation templates using graphic design programmes ensuring the attractiveness and clarity of the information products.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a dissemination plan for all information products, including the definition of standard operating procedures for clearing information products for release

IT Support

  • Provide (IT) technical support services to end-users. 
  • Troubleshoot, resolve and keep reported records of users' problems & solutions offered
  • Respond to and log calls, escalating calls as required with key support vendors.
  • Service and maintain printers and other IT hardware in DRC South Kordofan Area Office
  • Format and install drivers and other software on Desktops, Printer\scanners, laptops.
  • Evaluate existing service delivery arrangements, researches and provide options, recommendations (including budgetary and other considerations), and solutions to address DRC specific challenges in order to better meet client needs and ongoing performance improvement and enhancement. 
  • Documentation – Establishing a user friendly and elaborate documentation procedure to support all IT activities as and when required

Ensure users utilize information technology in an effective and productive/proactive way. In this regard: 

  • Advise users on effective and efficient use of IT tools and facilities (software and hardware).
  • Liaise with users to determine their IT training needs and developing and implementing IT training plans.  Particularly, training users in application software used by the company.
  • Planning, design, documentation and implementation of various systems to include desktops, Laptop PCs, servers’ network equipment, software applications and Multi photocopier scanner machines…etc.
  • Provide on-call/remote technical support to the workshops. Regularly perform on-site support across management building and workshops.
  • Keep an up-to-date inventory of hardware and software resources within the company.
  • Recommend Information Technology strategies, policies, and procedures by evaluating company outcomes, identifying problems, evaluating trends, and anticipating requirements.

Collaborate with the line Manager to:

  • Install, configure, and maintain security for LAN/WAN, Internet, wireless, and remote access services.
  • Implement new software systems, and undertaking upgrades of existing systems, ensure active Anti-virus use on all computers in line with the DRC standards and guidelines.
  • Ensure 100% availability of IT systems and services at the Area Office - (both local area network and for remote data communication/connectivity), and Internet connectivity. 
  • Assists in planning, design, documentation and implementation of various systems to include desktops, Laptop PCs, servers’ network equipment and software applications.
  • Create and maintain good technical documentation, for IT Tracking equipment and asset management. 
  • Make recommendation for purchase of new equipment /services when necessary.

Develop and use a reporting system that summarizes current spending related to IT. Implement strategies for IT and IT Services for DRC South Kordofan Office


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Completion of University education is required in Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunications, Engineering.
  • ITIL Foundation Certificate, CCNA or equivalent customer support certification is an asset. 
  • A minimum of 3 years of practical work experience in information technology, requiring systematic methods of troubleshooting and problem solving is required.
  • Experience in providing assistance to users on IT products and services and use of applications and diagnostic tools is required.
  • Practical experience in providing technical and business Customer Support and Services is required.
  • Practical experience and working knowledge of various computer platforms and applications is required.
  • Knowledge of different data collection methodologies and proven capacity to analyze statistical information
  • Proven abilities in data collection, compilation, analysis and reporting with ability to write in a clear and concise manner
  • Proven skills in infographic management
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Fluency in English and Arabic

Education: (include certificates, licenses etc.)

Bachelor Degree in Computer Sciences, Computer Engineering or other related IT Field.

Languages: (indicate fluency level)

Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic.
