Child Protection Officer – Education Sector

 Background:

The overall objective of the Child Protection Officer is to ensure, under the responsibility of the Education Program Coordinator and Projects Implementation Department, the implementation of activities related to children’s protection within the frame of Sadagaat’s education programs.

 

In the course of undertaking their tasks, the Child Protection Officer represents Sadagaat with professionalism, honesty, and commitment, striving to maintain Sadagaat’s professional reputation through their work.

 

The Child Protection Officer provides specific support for all Case Workers and PSS (Psychosocial Support) facilitators who are supporting conflict-affected children and families through case management services and psychosocial activities in targeted areas.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Field Coordination 

  • Security: Monitor and report on security conditions to ensure the safety of field teams.
  • Needs Assessment: Assist in conducting needs assessments to identify areas of intervention.
  • Support to Partners: Provide guidance and support to partner staff in coordination with relevant managers
  • Represent Sadagaat with local authorities and communities, ensuring acceptance, access, and team safety.
  • Represent Sadagaat with partners, NGOs, UN agencies, and clusters, coordinating activities in intervention locations.
  • Support the project management team in conducting needs assessments and identifying intervention locations at the beginning of the project.
  • Support partner staff to carry out their tasks, as directed by the Education Program Coordinator and in coordination with the Local Partnerships.

Technical Support to Child Protection Teams

  • Case Management: Manage complex cases and ensure appropriate referral pathways are in place.
  • Coordination: Facilitate connections between families, local authorities, schools, and other actors to support children at risk.
  • Awareness Campaigns: Organize and conduct awareness campaigns on children’s rights and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse.
  • Environment: Ensure a safe and healthy environment for children during activities.
  • Update referral opportunities regularly and ensure effective referral pathways for existing services for children and families.
  • Facilitate the connection between families, local authorities, schools, non-formal education actors, and other partners to support children at risk.
  • Provide relevant child protection training for Education Projects teams to build their capacity.
  • Contribute to awareness campaigns promoting children’s rights and organize related events.
  • Monitor and support community volunteers involved in Education Programs activities, ensuring quality.
  • Facilitate awareness campaigns on Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) to affected populations and local communities.
  • Ensure compliance with Sadagaat’s Child Safeguarding Policy.
  • Provide technical and planning support to team members to organize high-quality activities.
  • Ensure equal treatment of beneficiaries, respect confidentiality, and adhere to Sadagaat’s ethical guidelines and code of conduct.

Monitoring and Reporting Activities

  • Contribute to data collection as directed by the Education Program Coordinator.
  • Conduct surveys (e.g., baseline, needs assessment, Post Distribution Monitoring) as directed by the Education Program Coordinator.
  • Carry out various monitoring activities using Sadagaat’s CP monitoring tools; train the team on these tools and ensure timely usage and sharing.
  • Report activities to the Education Program Coordinator promptly.
  • Inform the Education Program Coordinator of community context updates, new needs, relevant training, and interesting events for project communication.
  • Support and monitor that Sadagaat and partners’ staff comply with PSEA and Child Safeguarding guidelines.
  • Participate in project evaluation and impact assessment.
  • Organize regular meetings with projects teams to identify training needs and get field feedback.
  • Prepare daily/weekly activity plans and reports; share with the Education Program Coordinator.
  • Facilitate and supervise local partners at the base and field level.

Capacity Building

  • Actively participate in recommended training courses and share new skills and knowledge with the team or colleagues.
  • Inform the manager about identified training needs and opportunities.
  • Supervise partner organizations according to Sadagaat partnership agreements and Education Program Coordinator’s direction; ensure regular reporting from local partners as per MoU and/or TA.

Development of New Projects and Needs Assessments

  • Support Sadagaat in developing new projects by providing relevant field information and recommendations.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of needs assessments in targeted locations.
  • Communicate field needs and ensure good information sharing throughout project implementation to inform new project proposals.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform other tasks as required for the effective running of the projects.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Degree/Diploma in social sciences (sociology, psychology, Child Protection, Education, or related fields).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in protection with NGOs.
  • Practical experience in CP activities with the Ministry, CP institutions, NGOs, or related bodies.
  • Previous experience in mobile service delivery is appreciated.
  • Experience in managing field teams is advisable.
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  •  English proficiency (speaking, reading, writing).
