The Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) is a coalition of civil society organizations from Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia and Somaliland. SIHA was founded in 1995 by a collection of women\'s groups with the view of strengthening the capacities of women organizations in the Horn of Africa countries. SIHA advocates for social change and gender equality for men and women in the Horn region and works specifically on: gender equality, women rights activism, women economic empowerment, eliminating violence against women and girls, promoting human rights, peace building and conflict transformation, enhancing women’s leadership and political participation and the production and dissemination of knowledge.  Background:

Job Summary :

The Field Coordinator holds the responsibility of coordinating, consolidating, and ensuring the seamless execution of SIHA operational activities. This includes ensuring strict adherence to logistic, human resource, administration, and security protocols on behalf of SIHA in Sudan. Additionally, the Field Coordinator serves as the official SIHA representative to relevant stakeholders and is tasked with analyzing and reporting on SIHA's work mandate and project priorities, identifying the various entities involved in operations and their collaborations with SIHA considering the context and the security situation. This role reports directly to the Country Coordinator and receives support from the Senior Program Officer, various technical units in Sudan, and the Regional Office. 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Main Tasks and Responsibilities 

The Field Coordinator plays a pivotal role in maintaining the quality and relevance of SIHA's operations, establishing and managing partnerships, offering administrative and logistical support, and overseeing security management within their operational context. The Field Coordinator's roles and responsibilities encompass various critical aspects: 

 

Ensuring Operational Relevance and Quality: 

Guaranteeing proper implementation and monitoring of actions. 

Adapting project organizational procedures and management when necessary. 

Overseeing risk control and internal reporting to relevant teams. 

 

Managing Partnerships: 

Handling relations with SIHA partners and fostering new partnerships. 

Serving as SIHA's official representative in Sudan and liaising with various stakeholders, including NGO teams, local administration, authorities, civil society, media, and coordination bodies. 

Strengthening relations between SIHA and government and donor representatives. 

Facilitating meetings and ongoing coordination with SIHA grassroots networks. 

 

Administrative and Logistical Support: 

Identifying administrative and logistical needs to streamline workflow. 

Supervising SIHA operations in the country, including field monitors, project assistants, accountants, and logistic workers. 

Identifying new grassroots partners for potential programmatic collaboration. 

 

 

 

 

Security Management: 

Analyzing the security situation in the area of operation and providing weekly updates. 

Implementing, applying, and updating safety management tools, as well as contributing to their definition if needed. 

Ensuring team compliance with security and safety regulations. 

Managing security incidents that may occur in the working area. 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education & Experience: 

A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as international relations, development studies, social sciences, or a related discipline. A master's degree is preferred. 

A minimum of 4-5 years of professional experience in humanitarian or development work, preferably focusing on women's rights, gender equality, or related fields. 

Proven experience coordinating projects in complex and challenging environments, especially in Sudan. Familiarity with states and communities within Sudan. 

Demonstrated experience managing partnerships and fostering relationships with diverse stakeholders, including NGOs, governmental bodies, donors, and grassroots organizations. 

Solid experience in security management, including risk assessment and incident response. 

Previous experience in supervising and leading teams effectively. 

Skills and Competencies

Strong knowledge of women's rights, gender equality, and related human rights issues. 

Leadership and managerial skills with the ability to guide and motivate a diverse team. 

Excellent communication and negotiation skills for building effective partnerships and representing the organization to various stakeholders. 

Proficiency in risk analysis and mitigation, with a keen understanding of security protocols and safety measures. 

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to evolving situations and make informed decisions. 

Fluency in English; proficiency in other relevant local languages is a plus. 

Proficiency in using standard office software and project management tools.

Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively in diverse and multicultural settings. 

Adaptability and resilience in facing challenges and working in sometimes difficult conditions.

Additional Requirements: 

Ability and willingness to travel and work in remote or conflict-affected areas within the Greater Horn of Africa region. 

Flexibility to work irregular hours and under pressure when necessary.
