Medical Team Leader

 Background:

The Medical team leader will be part of a health team that will support the implementation of the IRC’s health programs in Gedaref at project locations that will  ensure  the delivery  of  high-quality health services, Support and supervise delivery of primary health services in health clinics, ensure availability of all supplies and equipment needed in PHCCs, Initiate, coordinate, and accelerate all planned training activities in collaboration with SMOH to build capacity of project staff & Support health officer and clinics in charge in management of health staff and liaise with health manager, health coordinator, HR, and field coordinator to address any emerging issues for staff at the health implementation sites in Gedaref.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Monitoring of health project implementation   
  • Take a key role in coordinating Health and Nutrition activities and ensure budget expenditure coincide with agreed upon activities on timely manner. 
  • Ensure that all reports are compiled and submitted weekly and monthly reports & whenever requested. 
  • Participate and represent IRC in meetings with ministry of health and other partners as needed.
  • Ensure provision of quality health services at all levels. 
  • Ensure availability of all supplies and equipment needed for health projects in collaboration with pharmacy officer for medical supplies and logistics for rehabilitations and furnishing 
  • Conduct training need assessment and prepare plans for staff capacity building 
  • Coaching of field staff.
  • Ensure availability of all supplies and equipment needed for project implementation
  • Ensure provision of quality health care at all levels. 
  • Ensure support to the referral of sick patients to secondary health care 
  • The Medical team leader will be responsible for the management of the health staff 
  • Meetings with health staff and community volunteer groups to share information and encourage feedback
  • Participate and represent IRC in community meetings & partners meeting
  • Ensure availability of MOH/WHO guidelines and protocols at the health clinics and ensure that the medical assistants are using them as reference while carrying out clinical consultations.
  • Make sure that data collections forms, patient registers are availed to the clinics for service data capturing 
  • To participate in any activity as assigned by Line manager 

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education: 

  • Qualified Medical Doctor/ public health, from a recognized Medical University.

 

Work Experience: 

  • At least 4 years or more experience working in a health project, 
  • At least 4 years’ experience working with NGOs
  • Ability and flexibility to understand and work within the cultural and political environment 

 

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies: 

  • Professional skills to provide sensitive and appropriate medical care 
  • Familiarity with the local context: language, culture, etc. 
  • Ability to maintain beneficiary confidentiality and respect at all times is essential.
  • Sensitivity and diplomacy to provide Primary health and reproductive health care 

 

Demonstrated Managerial/Leadership Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good spoken and written English for concise reporting. 
  • Able to provide positive and negative feedback in a sensitive manner 
  • Ability to coordinate activities with other teams
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Able to with little supervision

 

Languages: 

  • Fluency Spoken and written English

 

Computer/Other Tech Requirements:

  • Basic computer Literacy: Word and Excel will be an added advantage
  • Able to work remains productive under difficult and high pressure situations with the ability to prioritize effectively, and respects and adheres to deadlines.
