 Background:

The Health & Nutrition Program Officer will be responsible for supporting all health and nutrition activities for Concern Worldwide supported health facilities and catchment communities in Talodi Locality. Responsibilities will include day to day supports to Health and Nutrition activities in the health facilities and their catchment communities, monitoring of activities, report making, coordination with other sectors and government authorities.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

 

Technical support and Management

  • Work closely with the Area Manager ,  Health and nutrition coordinator  , health and Nutrition – Project Manager to ensure  integration and implementation of the Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and optimal Infant and Child Feeding (IYCF) component of the nutrition program into the Primary Healthcare Program (RH-ANC and PNC, EPI, HE , IMCI ) in Concern  supported health facilities. and efficiently
  • Ensure adherence to the current SAM management protocols in OTP/TSFP sites
  • Help with activity verification and monitoring (stock and program quality) at supported facilities to ensure smooth, high-quality program implementation
  • Facilitate coordination meetings, advocacy meetings and awareness raising sessions at the community level, together with community health promoters
  • Assist the Roving Health & Nutrition Coordinator to prepare project teams weekly and monthly work plans.
  • Collect and compile project data regularly to submit to the Roving Health & Nutrition Coordinator, including case studies, success stories and photographs of facilities.
  • Provide regular updates on inventory of medical and non-medical items supported by the project (information / data collected through monitoring visits)
  • Attend external meetings if/when assigned to represent  Concern Worldwide
  • Improve the quality of primary health care (PHC) services delivered at supported facilities throughout the state through priority setting, on-job training, and continuous monitoring
  • Ensure program targets are met using indicator / activity tracking table
  • Ensure diagnosis and treatment of patients is based on standard procedures (national and international guidelines)
  • Take lead in the planning and execution of training programs for Concern and SMOH staff.
  •  Provide support supervision and on job training of the health and nutrition teams.
  • Ensure the community based activities such as EPI, nutrition screening, health education and defaulter tracing are done properly

  • Coordination and Representation
  • Do active networking with health and nutrition stakeholders such as SMoH, WHO, WFP and UNICEF at locality level.
  • Participate in the health and nutrition coordination meetings at locality level and represent Concern in technical meetings as needed.
  • Represent Concern in technical health and nutrition missions conducted by stakeholders and UN agencies.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
  • Take a lead role in the regular monitoring of South Kordofan Talodi Localities health and nutrition programs in the targeted locality  and provide regular supportive supervision to health facilities.
  • Responsible for collection, collation and dissemination of data from the Concern supported health facilities.
  • Facilitate learning, documentation and sharing of experience/learning of PHC, CMAM, C4D , nutrition prevention and IYCF within the operation areas.
  • Contribute to the development of programme database and maintain statistical database of programme figures for all the program sites.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports highlighting programme achievement, challenges and plans and submit them to the his/her line managers on regular and timely manner.
  • Compile information collected from various programme areas to produce monthly narrative reports.
  • Other Duties:

    Other duties
    The above duties will be prioritised by the manager in consultation with the post-holder. The post-holder may be asked to re-organise their work to help Concern respond to changes in type or extent of need. This would be done in a way consistent with the purposes of the post and in consultation with the post-holder.

    Except in the normal duties of work, information relating to the practices and business of Concern Worldwide must not be disclosed to another person or organisation without authorisation.


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Essential Education
  • Should have Diploma in Clinical Medicine, Public health or Nursing   with 4 years and Bachelor Degree with 2 years’ experience.
  • Job related Experience required
  • Experience in community based health/nutrition programme
  • Experience in needs assessments, surveillance, surveys, and information management
  • Experience in training, supervision and management of staff
  • Excellent computer skills especially word, excel, and power point. 
  • Ability to communicate and write reports in English is required.
  • Knowledge and experience of humanitarian work is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of policies and guidelines pertaining to the health and nutrition sectors in Sudan is required. 
  • Ability to travel to field locations with rough roads and extreme weather conditions.
