Gum Arabic is a strategic sector for improving exportations of Sudan and the living conditions of populations in the Sudan. For this reason, the Forests National Corporation (FNC) will implement a Trade Capacity Building Program (TCBP) financed by the European Union through the French Agency for Development (AFD) to support the value chain of the gum Arabic sector in Sudan.

The general objective of the Project is to contribute to poverty reduction and environment protection by strengthening the gum Arabic value chain in Sudan and by developing market opportunities for the sector

 Background:

Project description

Gum Arabic is a strategic sector for improving exportations of Sudan and the living conditions of populations in the Sudan. For this reason, the Forests National Corporation (FNC) is implementing a Trade Capacity Building Program (TCBP) financed by the European Union through the French Agency for Development (AFD) to support the value chain of the gum Arabic sector in Sudan (AAGVCSS Project).

 

The general objective of the Project is to contribute to poverty reduction and environment protection by strengthening the gum Arabic value chain in Sudan and by developing market opportunities for the sector.

 

The project is seeking for qualified technical assistant in the field of rural development and poverty reduction to work as part-time for the project (one positions).

 

Rural Development and Poverty Reduction Assistant



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Under the guidance and the supervision of the Project National Coordinator based in Khartoum. The technical assistant for rural development and poverty reduction will be in charge of the approach and strategies and action plans related to rural development and poverty reduction

Under the guidance of the PNC, he/she will perform the following tasks:

 

  • (i) Contribute on reviewing the approach, strategies and action plans related to activities aiming at reducing poverty and improving livelihood of rural areas are within the project activities as required
  •  of the project related to poverty reduction and rural development
  • (ii) Contribute on reviewing the status of poverty in the rural areas of project site throughout the project period, analyzing the root causes of the rural poverty, and identify areas where measures can be taken, particularly from the perspective of gum Arabic marketing and e-commerce-development.
  • (iii) In close collaboration with the procurement and marketing assistant work in developing ToRs for consultancy services related to project components
  • (iv) Contribute in design of the overall framework and scope of the studies and surveys, related to rural development actions.
  • (v) Contribute in developing applications, and coordinating technical activities in the field of rural development and poverty reduction to propose sub activities which serve sub-national units of the project.
  • (vi) Support the staff on defining and implementing the plan of a stakeholders’ engagement
  • (vii)Assist in organizing project related events as needed.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Rural Development and Poverty Reduction Assistant should have experience in development and poverty reduction in Sudan for at least 5 years’ experience, he or she should hold a minimum of a master’s degree in rural development, socio-economic analysis or mostly related field applicable to this position.


Conditions

Work at the project management unit in Khartoum as a part timer, with frequent field visits
One year contract (renewable according to performance);

Immediate availability.

Salary: EUR 200 to be paid in SDG with the Central Bank exchange rate on monthly basis
