Radio Operator
ICRC

 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an impartial, neutral and independent organization striving to protect and assist the victims of war and internal violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person for the following position: Radio Operator in Khartoum.

Purpose

The Radio Operator operates the ICRC’s telecommunications equipment. S/he maintains radio contact and telecommunications between sites, vehicles and people so that the delegation can follow field movements in accordance with its programme and with security rules.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Follows communication and transmission activity via telecommunications equipment.
  • Ensures constant contact with people moving in the field and takes appropriate action as stipulated under security rules and internal guidelines.
  • Proactively maintains information flow on security-related issues.
  • Updates lists of field movements, messages transmitted, etc.
  • Monitoring internal movement for ICRC vehicles.
  • Updates the head count list daily.
  • Gives radio-related briefings if required.
  • Inform ICT immediately if devices not functioning well, (HF,VHF, Thuraya and monitoring screen)

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree, some college coursework completed, or an Associate Degree is an asset.
  • Vocational training in electronics, telecommunication, IT or similar field an asset.
  • 3-5 years of experience in electronics, information technology, telecommunication or similar position
  • Good knowledge of the country and local terrain.
  • Some experience working with the ICRC an asset.
  • Good command (spoken and written) of English and/or French.
  • Good computer knowledge.
  • Skilled in the following competencies: Leadership, Accountability, People management, Teamwork & Collaboration, Representing the ICRC, Beneficiary & Client focused.
