Since its creation in 2009, ALIMA has treated more than 4 million patients and today deploys its operations in 11 African countries. In 2018 we developed 41 humanitarian medical response projects to meet the needs of populations affected by conflicts, epidemics and extreme poverty. All of these projects are carried out in support to national authorities through nearly 330 health facilities (including 28 hospitals and 300 health facilities). Whenever possible We work in partnership with local NGO's to ensure that our patients benefit from the best and most relevant expertise wherever it is, whether within their own country or in the rest of the world. In addition, to improve the humanitarian response, we are carrying out operational and clinical research projects particularly in the field of the fight against malnutrition and viral haemorrhagic fevers.


ALIMA’S TEAM:more than 2000 people are currently working for ALIMA. The field teams, closest to the patients, receive their support from coordination teams generally based in the countries’ capitals. These receive support from the 4 desk teams and the emergency and opening team based at the operational headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. The Paris and New York teams are actively working to raise funds and represent ALIMA. The rest of the ALIMA Galaxy includes individuals and partner teams working on behalf of other organizations such as medical NGOs BEFEN, ALERT Health, SOS Doctors / KEOOGO, AMCP, research organizations PACCI and INSERM, Bordeaux or Copenhagen Universities, the INGO Solidarités International and many others.

THE WORK WE DO:Malnutrition, Maternal Health, Primary Health, Paediatrics, Malaria, Epidemics (Ebola, Cholera, Measles, Dengue, Lassa Fever), Hospitalization, Emergencies, Gender Based Violence, Opening / Closing.



At the end of March 2021, ALIMA visited Sudan for the first time to develop contacts and gather enough information to set up an ALIMA mission in the country. From April to August, two exploratory missions were conducted by ALIMA: one in Khartoum in May 2021 and one in South Kordofan in August 2021. After supporting the Covid-19 Isolation Center at Omdurman Teaching Hospital between August 2021 and January 2022, ALIMA is starting a project in Al Saab Hospital in Khartoum in February 2022 in order to develop oxygen capacity in the structure. ALIMA has also been running  a Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) project in Kadugli in South Kordofan State since December 2021; the activities included conducting SRH and neonatal healthcare services in the  maternity ward of Kadogli Teaching Hospital (KTH).  ALIMA will be extending its healthcare services at communities level  through Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities and mobile clinics.

ALIMA also plans to conduct an assessment in the Red Sea State in 2022.



 Duties and responsibilities:


Based at the country coordination office in Khartoum, working under the direct supervision of the Medical Coordinator, the Assistant MedCo will support the MedCo in the implementation of the overall medical content, activity and resources in Sudan mission, as well as health data management.

In order to accomplish this task, she/he will support MedCo for the supervision of project activities in collaboration with project coordinators and project medical team leaders (PMR/MAM), liaising with relevant partners (MoH/EOC), maintaining medical data system for the mission (database and procedures, collecting statistical data from ALIMA supported operational entities, and generating weekly, monthly, quarterly statistical reports for program follow-up and monitoring purposes. She/he is expected to take part in monitoring and evaluation activities (including surveys), to ensure the delivery of high quality services.


  • Under the responsibility of the coordination (MEDCo), provide technical advice and support to Sudan mission projects.
  • Carry out medical/administrative tasks (inventory and management of the medical operational library, archiving of data and medical reports, etc.).
  • Participate in health emergency assessments under the responsibility of the coordination (MEDCo).
  • Support projects’ development by answering medical questions from the field, participating in briefings and debriefings of medical staff and replacing temporarily a member of the field team when necessary, in order to keep a smooth functioning of the projects.
  • Participates in meetings (as assistant) in case of absence of the MEDCo (not decisional).
  • Assist the MEDCo in the stakeholder mappings (and facilitate a smooth collaboration with the different health authorities).
  • In the absence of a Pharmacy Manager, work with the MEDCo to help manage the medical stocks, update the medical emergency kits, prepare and dispatch medical orders requested from the field, and participates in drawing up international orders and organizing their reception, in order to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness during the whole supply process.
  • Support the HR department and the medco in medical staff recruitments.
  • Participate actively in reflections and discussions on the evolution of ALIMA programs in the mission, contributing with his/her background and experience to the improvement of overall performance, adapting it to the changing reality and context.


Be in first line in responding to the health needs of the national staff according to ALIMA system put in place (Staff health policy), and Monitor together with the coordination administration the medical expenses associated with staff health care.


  • Support the development and distribution of data collection tools to the project sites.
  • Support medical teams in the mission, to ensure that weekly/monthly data is successfully submitted.
  • Carry out periodic data audits to ensure the accuracy and consistency of data in the health facility registers.
  • Attend program meetings and provide feedback to the medical team to improve the data quality.
  • Maintain medical data backup and archival procedures.
  • With the support of the MEDCo, organize quarterly data review meetings to monitor program performance.

Implementation of prevention measures against abuse of power, gender-based and sexual violence

  • Participates in training and awareness-raising sessions.
  • Implements abuse prevention standards.

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:


  • Bachelor degree in Medicine or Health sciences. Training in public health, or project management an asset. 



  • Project management background, with public health / epidemiology skill preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant previous experience in a similar role. Previous NGO experience is an asset.
  • Skill in data management. Training in computer science, Information Technology an asset.
  • Experience with health surveys.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural team of professionals.
  • Flexibility and ability to travel to ALIMA operational entities (for technical support).
  • English writing reading and speaking mandatory. Additional languages an asset.
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, Google Suite)
  • Strong ability to coordinate, priorities and organize workload, work under pressure with minimal supervision.
