Purpose of the Role

To lead the provision of routine vaccination services in the health facility as per Sudan Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) schedule including ensuring appropriate cold chain is maintained, vaccinations are provided with strict adherence to IPC and universal precaution standards and reports are compiled and submitted on timely manner. The vaccinator will also take part in immunization campaigns and report on the EPI activities within the area of coverage.

Key Duties

  • Conduct Health Education session on EPI at the service delivery point.
  • Administer vaccines according to EPI schedule and emphasize the importance of completing the vaccination as per schedule.
  • Estimate vaccines requirement and request from the relevant MoH EPI office
  • Maintain cold chain at the vaccination site and manage the Vaccines fridge if available.
  • Maintain universal precautions - To collect the used vials and syringes/needles in the safety boxes and ensure the proper dispose of other waste materials.
  • Ensure the use of aseptic technique during the administration of vaccine.
  • Explain to caretakers the dates of subsequent doses of immunization.
  • Explain to caretakers the adverse effects after immunization and the remedies.
  • Collaborate with the Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) to trace defaulters and make sure they are vaccinated.
  • Review all children vaccination records and log the number of children vaccinated in tally sheet and register.
  • Actively participate in mass immunizations campaigns where necessary
  • At the end of the immunization session prepare EPI daily report
  • Administer the appropriate doses of Vitamin A during EPI activities
  • Conduct outreach visits in collaboration with CHVs for better coverage if necessary.
  • Identify those children who are sick and malnourished and refer to clinician for treatment.
  • Any other activities requested by the manager.

Qualification, Experience and Competencies

  • Sudanese with required qualification as Vaccinator from recognized MOH institute.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in provision of vaccination services in rural health center
  • Excellent in liaison abilities and good communication skills.
  • Experience of working with community health workers.
  • Willingness to work in resource poor environment and be culturally sensitive.
  • Ability to produce report in Arabic or English.
  • Ability to work in a remote area and in context of insecurity issues.
