Employment Initiative Khartoum (EIK): Prospects for the future of Refugees and the Local Community

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Delegation of the European Union, GIZ implements the Employment Initiative in Khartoum. EIK aims to improve the employment prospects for refugees and the local population and thus contribute to the sustainable development of Sudan. To this end, measures for vocational qualification and employment promotion are being implemented and information is made accessible to the target group. The offers are directed both at the local population and at refugees and internally displaced persons in Khartoum.

GIZ Sudan/ EIK is looking for a qualified person to fill the following position:

Technical Advisor for Private Sector Development, specialization finance

The position is Khartoum-based. As a technical advisor for the German Employment Initiative Khartoum, you will report to the head of private sector development



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies for reaching target beneficiaries, with a focus on financing and growth of start-ups and small and medium sized businesses
  • Day-to-day implementation, monitoring and documentation of activities in the field of private sector development for people with different backgrounds, skills and abilities
  • Ensuring the delivery of tailor made, high quality and market-oriented advisory services for beneficiaries in the field of financial planning, new sources of income, budget control, financial management, evaluation of risks  
  • Support beneficiaries in evaluating their businesses and in accessing investment opportunities
  • Organize and implement workshops and seminars for different beneficiary groups
  • Liaise with investors, banks, venture capital firms and other finance institutions
  • Supervise and advice contracted consulting firm on financial/ non-financial grant management
  • Focal point for start-up and SME finance
  • Prepare ToR, studies and reports, follow up on processes, research on relevant topics
  • Support additional EIK activities, if needed

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • At least ten years of work experience in the banking and/ or microfinance sector in Sudan
  • At least 6 years of experience in SME and or start-up financing
  • At least 5 years of experience in project management
  • Proficient experience in development and implementation of training measures for people of different backgrounds in start-up/ SME finance and loans
  • Proven experience as a trainer or teacher for adults
  • University degree in the field of finance, management, economics or similar
  • Fluent in English and Arabic (both in speaking and writing), proficiency in Oromo and/ or Tigrinia and/ or Amharic is an advantage
  • Ability to communicate professionally and emphatically with people of different cultural and educational backgrounds
  • Ability to perform several tasks simultaneously and efficiently in an organized, professional manner
  • Flexibility, self-initiative and creative thinking in developing procedures and instruments
  • Ready to take over responsibility for tasks assigned and carry them out and report on results independently
  • Good team worker, player and communicator, who can coordinate suppliers and contractors
  • Ability to work professionally in an international context according to international standards
  • Working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications (e.g. MS Office, Excel);
  • Strong communication skills.
