 Background:

We are looking for an experienced Finance Officer that will be responsible for all financial matters of Saferworld Sudan. The role will report to, and work closely with the Country Director & the Financial Controller in the HQ. The Finance Officer will be responsible to carry out and strengthen the financial processes in Sudan, in accordance with Saferworld’s financial manual.  



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Financial management

  • Maintain a computerized accounting system in line with agreed procedures (SUN system and Quick books/ other finance systems used by Saferworld).
  • Reconcile bank statements, and provide weekly updates, and monthly financial reports to the CM and thereafter, to the UK office. 
  • Ensure agreed reporting dates are maintained and financial policies adhered to.
  • Responsible for accurate data entry into ledger accounting system, lead improvement and system enhancement work.
  • Ensure expenses are authorized and processed in accordance with agreed procedures and Saferworld polices.
  • Monitor project and organizational spending to ensure it is to agreed budgets and report accordingly.
  • Petty cash maintenance.
  • Prepare fund requests and expenditure reports
  • Prepare and maintain books of accounts, annual budget, financial reports in line with donor and in-country compliance.
  • Conduct and maintain records of all financial transactions.
  • Ensure bill-voucher preservation and on time payment of the relevant services.
  • Act as focal person for donor and internal audit requests.
  • Keep up to date changes in financial regulation and legislation.
  • Conduct field visits to monitor partner’s financial transactions and reports

HR Tasks 

  • Manage the payroll ensuring all statutory payments are made.

Office administration

 

  • With support from the HR & Operations Coordinator, support the development of effective office systems, ensuring these are consistent with Saferworld’s operating requirements.
  • Provide administrative support to members of staff as required
  • Perform any administrative and organizational tasks assigned. 

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Knowledge

  • BSc in Business or Accounting or related field is essential.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting procedures and principles, financial management, tax compliance, and operations.
  • Understanding of Sudan employment and financial legislation.
  • Understanding of NGO Operation procedures and requirements.
  • Graduate or part-qualified member of a recognized accounting body e.g. ACCA, CPA, CIMA would be an advantage.

 

Experience

  • At least 3 years’ experience of working in finance, accounting or administration.
  • 1 year + NGOs and INGOs experience.
  • Experience with accounting software especially SUN system and Quick books.
  • Experience managing financial systems in Sudan in accordance with national regulations.

 

Skills

  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic.
  • A willingness to promote the work of Saferworld and develop collaborative work with others.
  • Good interpersonal and team-working skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of transparency, accountability, and honesty.
  • Strong ethics, with an ability to manage confidential data.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Good IT skills, including in MS word and excel.
