 Background:

OVERALL PURPOSE:

The Community HealthOfficer will work as part of the health team, identifying and deliveringkey health, and hygiene messagesto vulnerable populations in Khartoum, focusing on COVID19 essential behaviour change communication.

 

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Reducing the transmission of COVID-19 through the provision of integrated WASH/NFI kits and essential behaviour change communication around COVID19 awareness and hygiene practices to the vulnerable population and high-risk group in Sudan

 

FUNCTIONAL LINKS

  • Internal: Health and Nutrition advisor, Health Project Manager (PM), WASH PM,  HR, logistic and Liaison Officer
  • External: Community leaders, IDP and host communities,Community Health Volunteers, local health providers,and security personnel at check points


 
 Duties and responsibilities:

General

  • Uphold the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence
  • Respect the Medair values at all times, both within and outside of working hours
  • Know, understand, and comply with Medair internal policies and procedures
  • Adhere to Medair Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) Handbook and regulations
  • Be prepared to work in Khartoum state and other states of Sudan
  • Work closely with all members of the Medair teams to provide the highest possible quality of care
  • Treat all beneficiaries, patients and their relatives with respect and dignity
  • Maintain confidentiality for all patients

 

Specific Responsibilities

Technical

  • Lead, organise and supervise teams of Community Health Volunteers
  • Implement COVID 19 related health and hygiene education sessions at MoH-supported PHC facilities and in communities.
  • Assess the training needs and provide trainings to Community Health Volunteers
  • Submit timely weekly and monthly reports on activities and progress to the Health project manager.
  • Act as a liaison between Medair and local authorities, community leaders, key stakeholders and beneficiaries to communicate key information to relevant communities and facilitate meetings as necessary.
  • Assist in assessment of health status, knowledge and practice of health promoting behaviours particularly in reducing COVID19 transmission amongst high risks group and IDPs and vulnerable population in informal settlement served by Medair.

 

Logistics

  • Ensure that necessary materials, equipment and supplies are in place for implementation and continued management of Community Health Program, request stock from Health Project Manager as necessary.

 

Financial Management

  • Comply with Medair regulations for any financial procedures carried out
  • Organise and distribute incentives for Community Health Volunteers

 

Communication and Coordination

  • Oversee the activities of the Community HealthVolunteers/hygiene promoters and ensure quality health/hygienemessaging.
  • Coordinate and liaise with members of the Medair health management team and health facilities clinical teams to ensure all objectives of the community health program are met.
  • Liaise with local community leaders, beneficiaries and key stakeholders to communicate the activities of the Medair health team

 

Staff Safety and Security

  • Ensure personal understanding of Medair Standard Operating Procedures and Contingency Plans as documented in the Medair Sudan Security Plan.
  • Comply with Medair security procedures at all times, remaining aware of the security situation in office and health facilities locations at all times.
  • Report any security incidents or concerns to the Security focal person immediately.
  • Report any issues regarding workplace practices to appropriateHealth Project Manager.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

 

QUALIFICATION / EXPERIENCE:

      ESSENTIAL

      DESIRABLE

Vocational qualification

  • Degree in nursing, community nursing or related medical/health field
  • Further qualifications in health promotion or community health

Work experience

  • At least two years of post-qualification work experience in relevant field
  •  
  • Previous experience working for an NGO
  • Previous experience in health promotion

Languages

  • Fluent in English and Arabic (spoken and written)
  • Working knowledge of other local languages

IT& Communications

  • Working knowledge of email
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Computer literate with good skills in common Microsoft Office programs

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Position will be based in the Medair Khartoum Office. The candidate will need to be flexible on time depending on the project needs.
  • Normal Medairworking hours will be 8.30am to 5.30pm with 1 hr paid lunch
