Nutritionist
WHO
The World Health Organization, Sudan Office is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the following post:

 Background:

The Nutritionist works under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of the respective nutrition programme or geographical location or in small to medium-sized Country Offices directly under the WHO Representative. S/he is expected to perform his/her duties and responsibilities with highest degree of efficiency and sound judgment.


The incumbent coordinates activities in the designated areas and may supervise directly a small team of Special Service Agreement holders.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

FUNCTION 1 (INCL. EXPECTED RESULTS)
Manages data collection and analysis and develops comprehensive plans to implement national programmes, achieving results such as:
• Preparation of nutrition programme profiles, identification of targets and priorities, selection of nutrition interventions, formulation of programme objectives, and development of long and short term action plans
• Analysis and interpretation of collected data for reporting and feedback mechanisms for partners and other reporting sites.
• Evaluation of all nutrition activities in terms of collecting periodic data from the nutrition stabilization center, and conducting timely health and nutrition analysis, inputs, support and coordination.
• Collaboration with quality assurance group/agency to crosscheck the data produced by sentinel sites.
• Proposal of and taking action on operational procedures on implementation and management of national programmes.
• Timely preparation and implementation of nutrition surveillance project operational and action plan, incl. management of administrative and financial requirements, identification and rectification of gaps in programme implementation.
• Participation in the planning of WHO emergency and humanitarian nutrition activities in emergency and crisis preparedness, response and recovery at country level

FUNCTION 2 (INCL. EXPECTED RESULTS)
Monitors and coordinates the implementation of planned activities, national campaigns and field action, achieving results such as:
• Monitoring progress of programmes towards set expected results.
• Technical guidance to programme staff of local partners including MoH.
• Implementation of relevant activities related to a broad range of nutrition issues, e.g. among others interventions that accelerate health of children, lactating mothers and groups at special risks; expansion and growth monitoring of infant and young child feeding ( IYCF), micronutrient and management of severe acute malnutrition programs, etc.
• Field and community visits for monitoring of nutrition community activities including of community sentinel sites (surveillance system).
• Management of the operational aspects of the emergency response work plans.

FUNCTION 3 (INCL. EXPECTED RESULTS)
Carries out training activities to strengthen capacity at various levels, achieving results such as:
• Identification of training needs for respective target audiences and development of comprehensive plans for capacity building
• Organisation and delivery of training activities to various target groups, e.g. to improve case management and prevention at various levels.
• Assessment of impact of training and capacity building activities.


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
First level university degree in medicine with specialization in Nutrition.
Desirable: Advanced training in facility based management of severe malnutrition, nutrition surveillance and communications.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
At least 2 years of relevant experience in the field of nutrition and food security.
Good knowledge of the processes and approaches concerning nutrition issues; knowledge of the operations of the national governments in the area of nutrition and health.


Good Knowledge of nutrition activities particularly in management of acute malnutrition, growth monitoring and nutrition surveillance system.
Experience/training in organizing and executing nutrition programmes.
Ability to interact with health and nutrition professionals at various level.
