The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH; “GIZ Cross-Border Collaboration Programme in Western Ethiopia and Eastern Sudan co-financed by German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU), would like to conduct a Research Study on Cross-Border Mixed Migration Dynamics and Cross-Border Trade Patterns in Blue Nile State, Sudan. The study will be a desk review combined with interviews that are curried out via skype/ telephone up to 20 expert days. In addition, a task of a short study on potential sustainable tourism in Blue Nile State.

Consultants will be expected to provide the following but not limited services:

  1. Cross-border mixed migration dynamics and patterns (illegal and legal) with an extended focus on local and regional (BGR/BNS) cross-border movements and temporary/seasonal/long-term labour migration.
  2. Legal and illegal/informal cross-border trade regulations and patterns in BNS.
  3. Cross-border conflicts and challenges, including trafficking and smuggling, as well as a needs assessment of border communities in BNS.
  4. Pastoralist migration and cross-border livestock movement and trade in BNS.
  5. Cross-border (social, trade/market and customs) services and infrastructure and patterns of usage and needs.
