 Background:

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Sudan Programmeis leading a Consortium implemented five years resilience building programing, Taadoud: Transition to Development, in Darfurfunded by the United Kingdom’s Department For International Development (DFID). Learning, ICT4D, equity “leave no one behind”, participatory community monitoring and evaluation, gender, and operations research are key components of the project. Along Taadoud, CRS Sudan is also implementing a complementary and leveraging project “RISING” implemented by the same Consortium through funds from United States Aid U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

 

Job Description:

The Learning and Communication Manager (LCM) will manage learning and communication to ensure timely and appropriate learning exchange and sharing with Taadoud staff, humanitarian actors, government stakeholders, and donor communities. The position will support the RISING project in promoting One Project Multiple Funds for Resilience Building in Darfur theme.

The LCM will coordinate the realization of the Communications Strategy and, as a component of that, will collect status reports; analyze relevant data in support with the Taadoud MEAL Coordinator and produce monthly, quarterly and annual reports and newsletters, which will include geo-tagged maps, where appropriate. The LCM will ensure that all relevant actors are aware of key issues and the latest developments and trends within Darfur and Sudan and neighboring countries that impact project implementation. As appropriate, the LCM will coordinate with project-supported media actors to broadcast key lessons learned and highlights from the progress reports to ensure partners and communities are aware of significant issues.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Project visibility and documentation
  • Manage the project branding strategy in line with donor requirements
  • Update project briefing packet (talking points, photos, brochures, etc)
  • Work with CRS IT and the Taadoud Coordination Management Unit to create and update Taadoud blog with monthly postings
  • Write and disseminate success stories  
  • Liaise with CRS HQ and Regional Communication Officers as appropriate to promote project
  • Draft and issue press releases, information notes, and written materials for dissemination to key stakeholders
  • Develop strong relationships with local and international media
  • Manage Knowledge Management Platform for internal information sharing

 

  1. Reporting and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Materials
  • Produce internal publications such as email announcements, publications, best practices and success stories
  • Produce and disseminate monthly updates and quarterly newsletters and quarterly and annual reports
  • Develop and promote lessons learned and best practices
  • Support sectoral technical leads (natural resource management, agriculture, nutrition, MEAL) in designing and using tailored information, education and communication (IEC) materials

 

  1. Capacity Building and Field Communication
  • Support and provide guidance to CRS and Taadoud partners staff on effective report and success stories writing skills and the roll-out of the Communications Strategy
  • Work with sectoral leads and Technical Working Groups in developing and designing tailored quality IEC materials
  • Work with sectoral leads as well as project management team to develop and broadcast necessary messages based early warning information in local radio stations
  • Ensure lessons learned relevant to communities are documented and broadcasted on community radio stations

 

  1. Event Management
  • Support project teams in the coordination and organization of major events such as learning events, exchange visits, donor visits and anniversary events.
  • Work in collaboration with project managers to build partner capacity to organize key partner events and communicate with a larger audience.
  • Support DCoP in the coordination and organization of quarterly PMT and TWG meetings and document lessons learned, meeting notes and actions and share information widely with all participants.

 

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in a field related to International Development or Communication, plus three years professional experience in communication and information management or multiple years of experience as Learning and Communication Manager in case of Bachelor’s degree
  • Writing and outreach experience
  • Media and awareness-raising experience
  • A strong capacity for analysis, communication and information management
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Full proficiency in spoken and written English required and Arabic (preferred)
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
  • Ability to handle large volume of work and have excellent organization skills
  • Commitment to creating positive environmental, social and cultural change
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, team worker and good listener
  • Ability to take initiatives and be flexible and adaptable in a changing environment
  • Good writing and social skills
  • Computer literacy (Photoshop and HTML)
