 Background:

The Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA) provides integrated PHC and humanitarian services in conflict-affected Sudan. Immunization is a frontline defense against outbreaks, especially for displaced and crisis-affected children. In alignment with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), SAPA is strengthening immunization delivery, surveillance, and preparedness capacities.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Purpose of the Role

To support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of immunization activities in SAPA-supported facilities and mobile teams, and to contribute to emergency preparedness and response (EPR) through timely data, bulletins, and evidence sharing with MoH/EPI, UNICEF, and WHO.
 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Program Implementation & Technical Support

  • Support delivery of routine immunization sessions per Sudan EPI schedule.
  • Develop and update facility- and locality-level micro-plans, including mapping of zero-dose children.
  • Provide technical input during vaccination campaigns and outbreak responses.

Documentation & Knowledge Products

  • Develop monthly immunization updates and situation bulletins for SAPA and partners.
  • Contribute to quarterly technical briefs/publications highlighting immunization trends and outbreak preparedness.
  • Prepare technical inputs to donor reports (UNICEF/WHO/Donors and others).

Coordination

  • Represent SAPA in EPI technical working groups and outbreak preparedness meetings.
  • Share early warning signals and coverage gaps with MoH/EPI and WHO for rapid action.

Cold Chain & Logistics

  • Conduct monthly cold chain assessments; ensure corrective action plans are implemented.
  • Forecast vaccine needs and reconcile stock balances with MoH/EPI.

AEFI & Safety

  • Train vaccinators on adverse events following immunization (AEFI) reporting and response.
  • Submit AEFI reports to MoH/EPI within 24 hours.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Validate immunization data and ensure entry into DHIS2/EPI reporting systems.
  • Conduct data quality audits (DQA) and share findings with MoH.

Growth Contribution for SAPA

  • Build SAPA’s visibility by drafting technical briefs/papers.
  • Strengthen donor positioning by supporting evidence-based fundraising.
  • Enhance SAPA’s representation in immunization working groups (linking SAPA more closely with MoH, UNICEF, WHO).


Technical Deliverables & KPIs

  • ≥90% of SAPA-supported facilities submit immunization data on time and with ≥95% accuracy.
  • All cold chain reports submitted quarterly to MoH/EPI.
  • At least 2 outbreak response after-action reports developed annually.
  • Monthly immunization situation updates/bulletins shared with SAPA HQ and partners.
  • At least 6 technical paper or bulletin per year highlighting SAPA’s immunization response in emergencies.
  • 100% of AEFI cases reported within 24 hours.


 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, or Medicine.
  • Minimum 5 years’ EPI/immunization experience in humanitarian or fragile contexts.
  • Technical knowledge of cold chain, AEFI, and MoH immunization reporting tools.
  • Experience drafting reports, technical updates, or bulletins for MoH/partners.
  • Fluency in English required; Arabic desirable.
