PROTECTION AND GENDER COORDINATOR
International Aid Services

International Aid Services (IAS) is an international relief and development organization founded in 1989 with the purpose of assisting people in need.  Background:

To ensure the effective planning and implementation of IAS’s protection-related activities and to facilitates, coordinates, and advocates for the implementation of protection and gender equality programming in IAS’s Humanitarian and Development projects in accordance to the IAS mandate, policies, and guidelines and to establish sustainable mechanisms in collaboration with the Sector Specialists and build the capacity of IAS staff and partner.

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Networking and external relations

  • Position IAS as the ‘go-to’ INGO in Sudan when it comes to Protection and gender in through representation Custer coordination meetings, coordination meetings with donors, relevant ministries, and other stakeholders.
  • Identify and engage national, regional, and global networks, alliances, consortia and organizations for possible collaborations to advance the objectives of the protection programme.
  • Take lead in the implementation and continuous revision of the advocacy strategy for protection related issues
  • Take lead in initiating and developing protection and gender position papers.
  • Collaborate and support synergies within protection and gender in the IAS-LM Alliance through regional and global initiatives and interventions.
  • Take lead in designing the advocacy agenda for Education related issues and lead the implementation of advocacy initiatives

Project development and proposal writing

  • Participate in investigating funding options, internal or external funding.
  • Take lead in writing protection project proposals and coordination with finance department in developing relevant budgets.
  • In liaison with the relevant Project Coordinators, provide technical bills of quantities to facilitate project design.
  • Contribute towards ensuring that projects are innovative and relevant.
  • Ensure that IAS mainstreams protection and gender equality in all projects
  • Take lead in operational research and publication of papers in Sudan and globally.

 

Strategic Planning

  • Upon request from the Programme Manager or Country Director, participate in the design provide information needed for the formulation of the country strategy.
  • Pick up ideas on funding opportunities and forward them to the Programme Manager.

 

Project Implementation

  • Provide technical guidance to Programme Coordinators, Protection Officers /and or Programme team to ensure to ensure that projects are implemented as planned.
  • Develop annual and quarterly work plans.
  • Participate in development of new training curricula and policies so as to ensure that projects are implemented in line with donor and government expectations and respond to the needs of the targeted communities.

 

Reporting

  • Review relevant (protection project) reports to ensure that the reports meet the required standards and quality.
  • Ensure that relevant project progress reports are submitted in a timely manner, in line with donor requirements and meet acceptable standards.

 

Capacity Building of local partners

  • Assess the technical capacity of staff and organize initiatives based on a capacity development plan to address the identified gaps.
  • Assess the technical capacity of national partner organizations, contribute to the capacity development plans and support their capacity building initiatives for local partners.

 

Others

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by managment.

 

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

 

This section should highlight the minimum requirements needed to accomplish the tasks stated above efficiently and up to the required standards.

 

  1. Education: Master’s degree in Social Sciences, organizational development, Social Work, International Development, or related subject
  2. Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role with at least 2 years working with advocacy work at policy level engaging decision makers.
  3. Additional certifications post graduate training certificate is required.
  4. Knowledge: Technical training in Education and an advantage if covering Inclusive Education and Education in Emergencies.

Job Commitment

  • Starting date: As soon as possible.
  • Duration of commitment: Minimum 1 year with a 3 months’ probation period and possibility of extension.
