Water & Habitat Assistant

 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an impartial, neutral and independent organisation striving to protect and assist victims of armed conflict and internal violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person for the position of Water & Habitat Assistant for its delegation in Khartoum.

 

Purpose:

WatHab Assistant contributes to the implementation of specific engineering projects within the scope of the ICRC’s water and habitat assistance objectives with supervision and coaching from their hierarchical superior. S/he has a close working relationship with external stakeholders related to their projects. Ensures follow up and updates of specific files independently.

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

§  Creates project files in electronic databases (such as the WatHab Project Assistant application) and keeps them up to date.

§  Prepares implementation/progress reports.

§  Provides regular information to colleagues on security, stakeholder issues and site progress.

§  Manages project purchasing on labour and materials according to the delegation's financial rules.

§  Administers hand-over of ICRC-provided infrastructure to end-users.

§  Uses results-based management to evaluate project implementation.

§  Helps identify needs through assessments and surveys.

§  Assists the hierarchy in running support activities for the department

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

§  Bachelor’s Degree, some college coursework completed, an Associate Degree or equivalent higher education degree in IT, engineering or any related technical field

§  Additional vocational training in IT, engineering, water supply, sanitation, construction, or any related technical field

§  3-5 years of experience in IT, engineering, water supply, sanitation, construction, or similar technical position.

§  Excellent in written and spoken Arabic and English languages.

§  Computer literate, with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

§  Familiarity with the standard norms and rules in construction, local techniques and requirements for construction

§  Driving license, succeeded in ICRC driving test

§  Experience in assessing, surveying, calculating and preparing estimates and technical drawings of buildings

§  Very good analytical skills

§  Familiar with the geographical responsibilities of the Sub delegations or offices

§  Proficient with drawing software skills in construction and hydraulics engineering

§  Proficient in use of AUTOCAD and MS project-management suite or equivalent

§  Skilled in the following competencies: Leadership, Accountability, People management, Team work & Collaboration, Representing the ICRC, Beneficiary & Client focused.
