 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an impartial, neutral and independent organisation striving to protect and assist the victims of war and internal violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person for the following position in Khartoum: Social Inclusion Assistant

 

Purpose:

The Social Inclusion Assistant contributes to implementing physical rehabilitation projects in accordance with agreed objectives and related strategies, with the primary aim of increasing institutional capacity to deliver programming targeted at social inclusion of people with physical disabilities. S/He acts as the focal point for disability inclusion matters at project level. S/he strengthens ongoing and/or implements new activities in the field of disability inclusion programmes and provides physical rehabilitation projects and service providers (disabled people's organizations and National Red Cross Societies) with appropriate support in promoting the development of an inclusive approach for people with disabilities.

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Ÿ  Supports coordinating the PRP social inclusion activities on a national level and liaises with the sub delegations to safeguard coherent and relevant activities in line with the overall social inclusion strategy of the PRP in the country.

Ÿ  Conducts beneficiary needs assessment and stakeholders mapping and proposes appropriate strategies to improve both the accessibility and quality of services.

Ÿ  Implements Disabled People Organizations (DPO) and Community Based Organization (CBO) partnership assessment and project proposal evaluation.

Ÿ  Assess capacity of Organizations/Associations which promote sport as means of inclusion for Persons with disabilities and works with selected partners to build capacity over time.

Ÿ  In partnership with the PRP Manager, develops and implements strategies for empowerment and inclusion of persons with disabilities (sports, education, livelihood, employment).

Ÿ  Assesses possibilities to facilitate and help DPOs / CBOs to address the barriers to inclusion that exist at various levels across the country.

Ÿ  Builds capacities of DPOs and CBOs to coordinate inclusion-focused activities at the grass root level.

Ÿ  Assesses ways to carry out developments/ information on disability rights and implement advocacy plans.

Ÿ  Plans nationwide events to mark the International Day of persons with Disabilities and acts as an advisor for the rest of the PRP team in developing and evaluating inclusion activities.

Ÿ  Facilitates contacts between the ICRC-supported physical rehabilitation centres and the various organizations active in the area of disability inclusion.

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Ÿ  Bachelor's degree in social sciences or Bachelor's in Exercise and Sport Science. Additional relevant courses (e.g. public health, experience in sports for the disabled) is an asset.

Ÿ  Minimum 3 years' postgraduate work experience with at least one year in an international humanitarian setting.

Ÿ  Previous experience with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement an asset.

Ÿ  Training and experience in social support activities.

Ÿ  Fluent command of Arabic language as well as English

Ÿ  Expert level in computer skills

Ÿ  Driving License, Succeeded in ICRC driving test

Ÿ  Ability to travel within Sudan and overnight in the field (1 – 7 days)

Ÿ  Skilled in the following competencies: Leadership, Accountability, People management, Team work & Collaboration, Representing the ICRC, Beneficiary & Client focused.
