Nutrition Officer

Muslim Aid is a faith-based British international charity that provides help to people who are victims of natural disasters, conflict or suffering from poverty, hunger, disease and illiteracy. It was established in the United Kingdom in 1985 in response to the drought in the Horn of Africa. Muslim Aid's Sudan Country office (MASCO) was set up in 1991 in response to the strategic need and to enable the continuation of effective aid work in the country. Currently, Muslim Aid is implementing projects in Kassala, Central Darfur and Red Sea State , Algazieera State , Gdarief State in Sudan.


 Salary: 3200 SDG net salary will be paid in USD 422 approximately

 Background:

The Nutrition Officer will monitor and support implementation of nutrition activities. S/he will manage and train field-level nutrition staff, perform on-going monitoring and support supervision, program planning, liaising with local government and Non-Governmental Organization partners, and staff capacity building. To coordinate the implementation of Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), Infant and Young Child Feeding practices (IYCF) and other nutrition program activities in various project locations.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Health & Nutrition Program Coordinator to achieve program objectives and targets effectively and efficiently.
  • Assist the Health & Nutrition Program Coordinator to prepare project teams weekly and monthly work plan.
  • Ensure that the nutrition projects are implemented according to national CMAM guidelines, and program objectives.
  • Working closely with the Social and Behavior Change Communication Officer and other project team help in the identification and recruitment of community mobilizes and/or project volunteers (mother group leaders) and monitor and provide support to community level activities such as mother group.
  • Provides technical support and training where required to all team members, outreach team including health workers and community volunteers,
  • Ensure home follow up of all absentees, defaulters, deaths and children “at risk” is carried out by to the relevant outreach worker and post visit feedback is given to the nutrition workers.
  • Conduct regular support supervisory visits to projects to ensure quality of nutrition projects and support identification and documentation of quality success stories.
  • Manages the stock levels of nutrition supplies and all other materials and alert the logistics in a timely manner as more materials are required and ensure that nutrition supplies are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Prepare internal and external reports within agreed deadlines using Muslim Aid and donor formats, as required; including the cluster updates and monthly reports
  • Follow up with Health and Nutrition Program Coordinator, Health and Nutrition Officer, Nutrition Assistants and Measurers to ensure that the CMAM database is accurately updated.
  • Ensure that the activities implemented in close collaboration with the MOH.
  • Performs any other related tasks as required by the line manager.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bsc degree in Nutrition Public Health or other health related science field is required
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant working experience under nutrition prevention including CMAM.
  • Experience in Community Based management of acute malnutrition and infant and young child feeding, preferably with INGOs

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Excellent community mobilization skills
  • Ability to work individually and within a team with limited supervision.
  • A strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate technical issues effectively and persuasively
  • Demonstrated experience in capacity building Training facilitation
  • Strength in interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to multi-task, ability to handle pressure well, ability to improvise, flexibility, adaptability to transition.
  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills
  • Good Computer knowledge – Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Language requirements:  Arabic and Fluency in English is essential
  • Ability to travel in country.
