Muslim Aid is a faith-based British international charity that provides help to people who are victims of natural disasters, conflict or suffering from poverty, hunger, disease and illiteracy. It was established in the United Kingdom in 1985 in response to the drought in the Horn of Africa. Muslim Aid's Sudan Country office (MASCO) was set up in 1991 in response to the strategic need and to enable the continuation of effective aid work in the country. Currently, Muslim Aid is implementing projects in Kassala, Central Darfur and Red Sea State , Algazieera State , Gdarief State in Sudan.


 Salary: 3200 SDG net salary will be paid in USD 422 approximately

 Background:

The Health and Nutrition Officer will be responsible for implementing Health and Nutrition (H&N) program in the field. Responsibilities include participation in technical assessments, collection of health and nutrition data, implementation, monitoring, documentation and reporting of the project, as well as supervision of community health workers/ care group facilitators, community nutrition volunteers, and to ensure appropriateness and quality of health and nutrition program



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Health & Nutrition Program Coordinator to achieve program objectives and targets effectively and efficiently.
  • Assist the Health & Nutrition Program Coordinator to prepare project teams weekly and monthly work plans.
  • Participate in health and nutrition assessments /surveys baseline, household surveys as required.
  • Collect information regarding the overall health and nutrition situation and needs of the targeted community and ensure the HIS data base is updated on monthly basis.
  • Liaise regularly with the Health and Nutrition Manager for technical issues and support.
  • Assist the Health and Nutrition Program Coordinator in developing a plan for training of health and nutrition staff.
  • Ensure the Health and Nutrition staffs at the clinic and community level are adequately trained on CMAM, IYCF, IMCI, ANC, PNC and outbreak disease guidelines.
  • Provide support and training for Care group facilitators at the community level.
  • Provide technical support and daily/ frequent clinical supervision of all aspects of CMAM and PHC (IMCI, RH, EPI) program activities
  • Ensure that proper assessment, classification, reporting and referral are done of patients presenting with danger signs and symptoms of outbreak diseases, in line with national case definitions.
  • Ensure that the health and nutrition activities are implemented according to national and humanitarian standards, guidelines, and program objectives.
  • Conduct regular support supervisory visits to projects to ensure quality of health and nutrition projects, and support identification and documentation of quality success stories.
  • Prepare internal and external reports within agreed deadlines using Muslim Aid and donor formats, as required; including the cluster updates and monthly reports.
  • Develop effective and professional relationships with relevant officials and departments.
  • Performs any other related tasks as required by the line manager.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bsc Degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, or other health related science field is required.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience implementing health and nutrition programs, public health, nutrition planning and management preferably with INGOs.

 

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Excellent community mobilization skills
  • Ability to work individually and within a team with limited supervision.
  • A strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate technical issues effectively and persuasively.
  • Demonstrated experience in capacity building Training facilitation
  • Strength in interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to multi-task, ability to handle pressure well, ability to improvise, flexibility, adaptability to transition.
  • Good Computer knowledge – Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Language requirements:  Arabic and Fluency in English is essential.
  • Ability to travel in country.
