 Background:

Welthungerhilfe /German Agro Action has received funding from WFP to implement a project in Kassala state from 2019 January.

The aim of the project is to strengthen the communities’ resilience by constructing assets and providing training on life skills through a productive safety net (PSN)/cash for assets approach in Kassala state.

WHH/GAA seeks to recruit competent personnel to work in the project team.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Aim of the Position: The Gender and Accountability Officer advises project planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting and monitors all project related activities and guides project staff on gender and accountability matters.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure gender inclusion and accountability aspects in all stages of project implementation and reporting
  • Ensure compliance of all project related activities with gender and accountability guidelines of Welthungerhilfe and World Food Programme.
  • Establish and monitor appropriate complaints mechanisms for all project related activities in close coordination with the M&E unit, PSN coordinator, and PSN field officers.
  • In close cooperation with the Head of Project, ensure a complaints and feedback mechanism is in place and accessible to all stakeholders.
  • Monitor and follow-up on the selection of appropriate target beneficiaries as recipients of PSN/FFA interventions.
  • Facilitate formation and representation of community-based organizations with a special emphasis on the representation of all vulnerable groups
  • Keep project management team members updated on changes, events or shocks relevant for the project implementation.
  • Conduct community mobilization and facilitate coordination and dialogue with communities and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Keep close contact and good working relationships with the target groups and communities.

  • Keep close contact and good working relationships with local authorities and line ministries.
  • In close cooperation with the Head of Project, organize capacity building activities for communities and exchange visits for partners.
  • Conduct monitoring, data collection for the analysis and evaluation of the project activities.
  • Collect necessary project data in close coordination with the M&E unit for reporting and monitoring purposes with a special emphasis on gender and accountability.
  • Keep records (both hard and soft copies) of project activity documents and project plans.
  • Assist and support internal or external consultants for assessments and evaluations.
  • Assist in design, planning and implementation of new project components and project plans.
  • Train WHH Kassala on mainstreaming Gender
  • Take lead in formulation of a gender mainstreaming framework for Kassala Field Office

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Team members are expected to support and assist each other’s, as well as replacing each other during leave periods.
  • Keep records (both hard and soft copies) of project activity documents and project plans.
  • Representing the organization and project in meetings if it becomes necessary.
  • Assist in the planning, coordination and implementation of other project activities throughout the project duration.
  • Provide feedback on constraints encountered during project(s) implementation and make recommendations and/or suggestions.
  • Keep Welthungerhilfe internal information as confidential.
  • Any other additional responsibility, in coordination and agreement with Area Manager, if it becomes necessary during the duration of the project.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social science, international development or related field
  • At least 3 years of working experience in a similar position with local or International NGO.
  • Excellent MS Office skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access) is mandatory.
  • Excellent English language skills (reading, writing, speaking) is mandatory.
  • Arabic language skills (reading, writing, speaking). Understanding of local dialects is a plus.
