 Background:

The GIZ Office Khartoum has been re-established in March 2018. GIZ Offices are the central element of GIZ’s field structure. The GIZ Office provides human resources and commercial support services for projects in their areas. Furthermore, the GIZ Offices perform internal audits of the project administrations in the public-benefit sector.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Dealing with all questions in this area
  • Identifying relevant problems and issues and assisting in formulating implementation-oriented solutions
  • Further developing instruments and assisting in introducing innovation and change
  • Managing knowledge by disseminating and documenting know-how, experience and information
  • Ensuring that IT including the server, network and a management systems operate and function correctly
  • implementing and complying with GIZ IT standards
  • Regularlyupdatingcomputersoftware
  • Providing technical support to projects and programs by dealing with questions and problems relating to IT and databases

 

Within these responsibilities, tasks include:

 

Hardware relatedtasks

  • Makes sure all hardware is up to date in accordance with current GIZ standards (laptops, servers and all desktop computers)
  • Deals with maintenance, purchase and improvement of server, PCs notebooks, printers, digital cameras, scanners and other hardware components
  • Discusses possible new purchases of or improvement to hardware and network equipment with the Administrative Director, based on the requirements and recommendations outlined in GIZ’s IT guidelines

 

Software relatedtasks

  • Implements, maintains, configures, and assists to purchase all standard GIZ software (e. g. APS, AMS, MS Office, WinPACCS, SAP, PROSOFT, COSOFT)
  • Tests new or upgraded software and updates all software to the latest versions
  • Establishes/ maintains proper back-up systems and ensures system security
  • Ensures that the anti-virus software is updated periodically
  • Maintains and updates existing websites
  • Coordinates necessary modifications to the existing home page in consultation with office management and the project or programme managers
  • Server-Administration-Skills (Server 2012/ Server 2016)
  • Active-Directory Installation/ Administration
  • Domain Controller Administration
  • Network Attached Storage (NAS) administration
  • File- and Printer-Sharing Networking
  • Installs/ manages and maintains a local area network (LAN) including its VLANs and WLANs.
  • Consults suppliers to guarantee the availability of the network, telephone system and IT hardware
  • Maintains market research on quality and economical prices and advises procurement on purchase of IT equipment
  • Trains GIZ staff on IT issues, provides starter training for office support staff
  • Installs, manages, and maintains the general administration of the entire system, including server, network equipment (switches, router,gateways, firewalls, wireless access points) and VoIP equipment (IP PBX, IP phones and VoIP gateways)
  • Back up data and deals with the problem of data security
  • Handles troubleshooting and solving of all computer and internet related problems, prepares information needed and maintains telephonic support
  • Ensures that an IT emergency service is available
  • Notifies the GIZ IT help desk of fundamental problems with GIZ IT applications
  • Gives advisory assistance to projects on matters that concern electronic data processing
  • Keeps an inventory of hard and software and updates list as soon as changes occur
  • Documents the installation and settings on the server and all computers
  • Performs other duties and tasks at the request of the management

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • BSc in IT, Computer or any related field
  • Familiarity with IT Hardware and Software systems, IT network systems and database software
  • Fluency in spoken and written English language
  • Previous experience in managing IT system in a large organization, international organization or NGO will be an advantage
  • Minimum of 1-4 years’ experience in IT
  • Good knowledge of windows operating systems, including Microsoft applications
  • Basic understanding of specific GIZ software (SAP, APS, AMS, PACCS, etc.) and the GIZ intranet
  • Certificates are an additional asset
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed as agreed with management
