The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is seeking for qualified candidate to fill the following post:
Background: Organizational Context: The Protection Associate reports to the Protection Officer. He/she monitors protection standards, operational procedures and practices in protection delivery in line with international standards and provides functional protection support to information management and programme staff. The Protection Associate is expected to coordinate quality, timely and effective protection responses to the needs of populations of concern and identify opportunities to mainstream protection methodologies and integrate protection safeguards in operational responses in all sectors. He/she contributes to designing a comprehensive protection strategy and liaises externally with authorities and partners on protection doctrine and policy as guided by the supervisor. The Protection Associate also ensures that persons of concern are involved with the Office in making decisions that affect them, whether in accessing their rights or in identifying appropriate solutions to their problems. To achieve this, the incumbent will need to build and maintain effective interfaces with communities of concern, local authorities and protection and assistance partners.
Operational Context: The Protection Associate is expected to coordinate quality, timely and effective protection responses to the needs of populations of concern; including survivors of SGBV and identify opportunities to mainstream SGBV protection methodologies and integrate protection safeguards in operational responses in all sectors. He/she will ensure that SGBV incidents are immediately identified, reported and referred to partners for medical care, legal aid and psychosocial support; based on their consent. He/she will provide advice on SGBV issues to persons of concern; liaise with competent authorities to ensure the issuance of personal and other relevant documentation; Monitor Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all SGBV activities and Manage individual SGBV cases In the Khartoum Urban Programme, many of the SGBV survivors who either approach the office or are identified through the outreach programme are female. It is necessary for them to be counselled by female staff. In this case therefore, a female candidate is preferred for this position. |
