 Background:

The  Fleet Supervisor is responsible for maintaining a safe, reliable, and cost-efficient fleet of vehicles to support the business. He/she ensures proper use and care of physical assets, helps to prevent equipment failures, controls costs, manages external vendor relationships, works closely with auto mechanics and internal customers, and performs regular equipment and facility audits. This position supervises mechanics within the department.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all vehicles and equipment assigned to departments and divisions.

  2.  Implements and monitors a preventative maintenance program to assure cost effective

  3. maintenance and a scheduled maintenance program to provide maintenance by  manufacturers specifications.

  4.   Maintains a complete inventory system through recording of all expenditures and income of each vehicle, maintenance equipment, fuel, repair parts, supplies, etc.

  5.  Monitors user departments by analysis of vehicle and equipment utilization and evaluation of equipment specifications.

  6.  Implements and maintains a mechanic training and certification program to provide needed technical skills for mechanics in repair of automobiles and heavy equipment.

  7.  Enforces city safety practices and procedures and ensures employees receive appropriate safety training.

  8. Supervises all Fleet Services employees; trains, evaluates and disciplines employees.

  9. Assists in the development of the Fleet Services budget to include a review of past year expenses and income; adjusts and administers all Fleet Service purchases, including parts, tools, office supplies.

  10. Examines reports for accuracy on each vehicle and piece of equipment repaired; writes reports on vehicles and equipment repaired, Makes monthly report.

  11. Keeps maintenance and repair records; performs preventive maintenance on all departmental vehicles; orders repair parts.

  12. Performs related duties as required.

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:


    Minimum Bechelors degree,, or  university degree would be an advantage.
    at least 7-10 of experience
    Driving license, off road knowledge, logistics and radio communication knowledge.
    Experience with light vehicles fleet in mining, construction or port environment.
    Extensive people management experience.

  • Current Mechanic’s license
  • Knowledge of Microsoft software .
  • Knowledge of financial statements and general understanding of the department’s contributions to the monthly financial statements.
  • Ability to deal with all levels of management
  • Tactfully dispenses direct and actionable feedback; is open and direct with others
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Valid Driver’s License
