On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ is implementing the project “Food Security for Refugees and Adjacent Communities in Gedaref states. The programme is implemented under the host agreement between the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the Government of Sudan. The programme has three areas of intervention and aims at improving the livelihoods of the local population, refugees, and migrants:

  1. Improving Food Security and thereby increasing agricultural yields;
  2. Improving the nutrition security through the production of vegetables;
  3. Improving the supply of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.

GIZ Sudan is looking for a qualified person to fill the following position: Food & Nutrition Security Advisor for Gedaref Project Office.
The Food & Nutrition Security Advisor (FNSA) is reporting to the Project Manager of the Food Security Programme for Refugees and Host Communities in Kassala and Gedaref.
The FNSA will be based in Gedaref. The position will require regular travels within Sudan.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate the food & nutrition security activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets and plans.
  • Provide technical backstopping to project associated personnel.
  • Oversee the field implementation of the programs in the project area.
  • Organize the design of field work programs.
  • Support and supervise the monitoring, evaluating and analysis of the food & nutrition unit.
  • Supervise activities and results of contracted organizations.
  • Prepare terms of reference for short term consultancies and facilitate their work within the project area.
  • Design intervention programs.
  • Prepare contracts with appropriate NGOs based on agreed interventions.
  • Prepare and organize regular work meetings and facilitate the exchange of information and experience between project personnel and subcontracted personnel.
  • Establish and maintain contacts with relevant stakeholders.
  • Assure dissemination of information and project results to selected stakeholders.
  • Assure reporting as laid down in the project reporting system.
  • Assist in the preparation of relevant documentation.

Required experience and qualifications:

  • At least 3-5 years of professional experience in comparable positions.
  • At least BA in (agriculture) or similar area.
  • Able to analyse the specific situation where F&NS activities are being carried out with those involved locally and the bodies linked to F&NS operating within the area of intervention (MoA, FAO, etc.).
  • Able to plan, manage and evaluate actions in the field of F&NS.
  • Very good working knowledge of household economy in rural contexts, income-generating activities and small business management.
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, email, and internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office).
  • Good management and organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills.  
  • Confidential and trustful handling of data and information.
  • Highly service oriented.  
  • Fluent written and oral knowledge of Arabic and English.
