 Background:

Under direct supervision of the senior driver, guidance Administration Associate and leadership of the Operation Manager, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services ensuring high accuracy of work. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

 

The Driver provides driving services to the operations and programme staff in the CO, Consultants and Experts and UN staff on mission.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Driver office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and cargo.
  • Delivery and collection of mail, meet official personnel at airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities.
  • Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Responsible for the day to day service and maintenance of assigned vehicle.
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, and map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts.
  • Logs official trips, daily mileage, oil changes, greasing, etc.
  • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
  • Coordinate with the Government institutions to obtain necessary approvals and documents:

o   Liaise with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on issuance of visas, legal papers for International Staff (Travel, Stay permits, diplomatic cards … etc), New vehicles procedures and issuance of diplomatic number plates

o   Work with Ministry of Finance in getting necessary approvals of exemptions whenever needed.

o   Work closely with Humanitarian Affairs Commission in obtaining vehicle and travels permits, Annual register of diplomatic cars

o   Liaise with the Traffic Police on the renewal of car licensing

  • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
  • Provide clerical support to Operations and Programme staff, such as: filing, photocopying, scanning, liaising with Finance UNDP to follow up on status payments.
  • Performs other functions of a protocol and administrative support nature as required

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education:

Primary education, valid driver’s license, knowledge of driving rules and regulations, and skill in minor vehicle repair.

 

Experience:

Minimum three years’ work experience as a driver preferably with International Organizations. Working experience with the UN is an asset. Safe driving record

 

Languages:

Good working knowledge of English and Arabic.
