 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an impartial, neutral and independent organisation striving to protect and assist the victims of war and internal violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person for the following position in Khartoum: Agronomist 2

 

Purpose: ​

 

Agronomist 2 plans, implements and monitors the Economic Security (EcoSec) Unit’s agriculture programmes in line with the country strategy and under the supervision and guidance of the Economic Security Coordinator and / or senior agronomist.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Organizes and manages the implementation and monitoring of agricultural programs and other   economic security projects in Sudan ;
  • Presents the ICRC principles, mandate and activities implemented in Sudan with interlocutors at a National level (National Security, Community Leaders, Tribal Leaders etc.);
  • Maintains and expands network of interlocutors in the area of responsibility;
  • Plans and organizes field trips;
  • Analyses the socio, economic, political and cultural situation of the covered area and its humanitarian consequences for the population;
  • Makes written reports on the analyses;
  • Keeps updated on the work of other organizations present in the field.

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • University degree in Agricultural science or other professional post-secondary school course or diploma in Agricultural science (at least one year full time) ;
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in adapted agricultural technology, seed management, plant genetic resources, supervision of on-farm trials, participatory methods and/or in livelihood projects, distributions, and humanitarian assistance related to economic security;
  • Intermediate level in computer skills;
  • Very good knowledge of English languages both written and oral;
  • Skilled in the following competencies: Adapting & Learning, Communication (ability to express and exchange views and ideas), Analysis & Synthesis;
  • Good knowledge of ICRC mandate, International Humanitarian Law (IHL), and of other humanitarian topics;
  • Very good knowledge of language and geography of assigned area desired;
  • Ability and readiness to work for extended periods in all areas of Sudan.
