 Background:

Primary focus of this position will be to plan, direct, and ensure that all survey activities relating to development ends, stapes, ore reserves areas, drawing of plans and sections are carried out efficiently and in conformity with specifications and standard professional practices.

Maintains accurate records of all statistics in connection with ore production layout of developments and projects, ore reserves and makes them available upon request by management and to satisfy statutory mining Laws.

The position will require the incumbent to develop strong working relationships with the mining operations department Position will require a strong safety management focus and commitment 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

·                     Carrying out initial surveys, risk assessments and environmental impact assessments on potential sites to assess whether plans are workable;

·                     Providing advice on developing and managing mineral sites safely and within regulations;

·                     Exploring, mapping and developing sites for mineral extraction;

·                     Charting surface areas using global positioning systems (gps), building accurate 3d models using digital imaging and specialist cad (computer-aided design) software to map the structure of a site;

·                     Researching land and tax records to establish site ownership;

·                     Undertaking exploration work, such as taking samples and recording results;

·                     Providing valuations of mineral deposits;

·                     Giving advice on how best to restore the landscape after extraction is complete;

·                     Meeting with members of the public and providing information and advice to them as required;

·                     Liaising with local authorities and preparing planning applications for clients;

·                     Predicting the environmental effects and impacts of mining, including air pollution and destruction of the landscape;

·                     Developing pollution licenses;

·                     Providing advice on how waste material should be disposed


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

·                     Prefer candidates to have a related degree on Surveying, civil or mining engineering

·                     Must have a minimum of seven (4) years mine surveying experience In underground operations

·                     A tertiary qualification (Degree) in survey with knowledge in baseline, geodetic and Cadastral surveys

·                     Must be good at math, have an interest in geography, the sciences

·                     Must have good organizational skills, be able to measure accurately and be good at problem solving

·                     Be able to work under pressure

·                     Good work ethic and be goal oriented

·                     Must be able to embrace new techniques and technologies and be adaptable

·                     Proficient in the use of underground mine survey software. Preference will be given to candidates with experience using software suites
